Need a basic utility helo?
 

I've been tasked to find and fly a helo for my boss. I've read the stats, and understand the manufacturer propoganda. I am also a helo guy, though my experience is from larger helos. I'm looking for 'practical' input. The choises seem to be between a Bell B3, Long ranger, or a EC350 B3or4. However, I'm seeing good prices on the Bell 222. Is there a reason for this? Bo-105?
Operations: South Florida, ISA_20/30. I want a buffer for the owner who ultimately will be flying solo, and I don't want him in an aircraft that he can easily paint himself into a corner. It'll be utility all the way...hunting trips, that sort of thing. Wash the interior out with a hose.
Any input?
(And, please only constructive input. If you're one of those that have nothing better to do than be negative....find someone else!)

Define the mission:

How much weight do you need to carry?

How fast do you need to be able to go?

How far unrefueled?

Then see if you can find an aircraft that fits your requirements (or the most important ones.

Then see if you can afford to fly it after you buy it.

I read a thread somewhere recently that asked about the Bell 222 and the response was something like "run away, run far, far away!" - apparently they're cheap to buy because they're horrendous to maintain.

Depending on how much you have to spend, or unless you need a twin, the B407 or a AS350B2. Both great utility helicopters with plenty of power. The Longranger at lower DOC's would be fine too.
If you are wanting to land in rugged confined areas then a MD500. Just dosn't have the cabin space of the other 3.
