New to rotors

HI all,

Being lucky enougth to work at Airbus in Filton we have our own Airfield and I also own a 6 acre Field with Barn....Now what I am trying to achieve is a better way to get to work without being stuck in motorway Traffic, I am about to start my Pilot lessons in a R22 but can you guys please help me get together some of the running costs I will be facing I.E

How much will insurance be

What do I need to put aside per hour for maintance

What sort of Fuel consumption should I expect

Also what sort of money should I spend on a R22

Last Question are Rotorways as awful as everyone is telling me

Thanks Guys

First of all remember the old adage - if you've time to spare then go by air.
One reason I bought my R22 was to enable me to commute, but in fact the weather is either grotty most days, or the days are too short in the winter that I actually rarely manage it. Remember that flying an R22 in iffy weather is a sure way to die. Still, to answer your questions.....

My insurance is around £5400 pa for an R22 with hull value £70k
In the first year of ownership I have done 100 hours or so and spent about £4k on maintenance. Note that is all scheduled with very few surprise items.
It burns 40 litres per hour at £1.20 per litre inc VAT
Second hand R22s range from £30k or so with 150 hours left on them up to £85k with 1000 hours. The hours depreciation is pretty much straight line. A hull with no hours left is worth £20k if you are lucky. A just rebuilt one is say £110k. Just draw a line between the two points with 2200 hours on the base axis of the graph. There are a few nice looking ones around at the moment.

Rotorways are not awful but no use for what you want to do.

Good luck

Thanks Muffin

I figured about £60 P/H does this tie up roughly with your figures
