"Mid-air" at 3ft (Video)

I got this in the e-mail recently. I don't know who, where, why etc..

Astar Crash

You can almost see him lingering that extra second or two before putting it in reverse, probably thinking "hmm was there a helicopter parked behind me......NAH."

That could have been SO much worse.

Q: What the hell was the pilot doing when he/she walked up to the machine?

Not looking around, that's for sure.

Looks like Gulf of Mexico heliport (possibly Sabine?) with the Astar being an ERA machine. Notice Airlog S76 in the background. I would say this is quite recent....within the last 12 months or so.

Very embarassing, how to you rectify that situation, you couldn't just lift off and move forwards again!!

I don't get it. The one with the camera is probalby banging his head to a wall for that screw up.

With what part did the astar came into contact with 120? Was that the tail rotor... but no spining... and no main rotor parts flew off... and on what is the astar resting, when the engine was cut?

Magjam 3rd December 2005 12:36

Phoinix, zxcvbn

Look closer, the horrible sound you hear is the Astar tail rotor shredding away at the EC120 plexiglass. The helicopter was not hovering very high and so he probably managed to set it down pretty quickly once he heard/felt the tail rotor contacting and/or saw the cameraman wave and run away.

When the camera once again focuses on the Astar, it has parked with its tailboom resting on top of the EC120 cockpit, and tilting down on its skid toes.

So yeah, it could have been a lot worse if it had started spinning and then rolled over, thrashing not just the two helicopters, but all the others parked nearby.
