EGPWS
 

As my main work is as an avionics design engineer (to pay for my flying training), one of the installs I have been involved in a lot recently, because of mandatory regs, is EGPWS in corporate jets.
Have any of you pro pilots flown an EGPWS (Mk22 I think for helis)equipped heli and if so how highly do you rate them??
Do you get a lot of nuisance alerts as helis spend a lot of time in close proximity to the hard stuff?
They do look impressive in the articles but whats the real impression from those who have used them?

We (Sikorsky)just certified the Honeywell helicopter Mark XXII EGPWS working with the FAA.

The system's logic is substantially different than that used for airplanes, and a much more detailed internal terrain map so it is quite nuisance free. It took some careful development in the mountains of North Carolina (where "Last of the Mohicans" was filmed) to get it right. The box also has about 30 other protections, such as low on ILS, RAWS and settling after takeoff. It generates a radar-like terrain map that projects on the radar display, and also aural and visual caution and warning.
