Charter rates going up worldwide?
i have heard through the grapevine that a large American operator has gone to its customers and told them they are having to put their prices up by a "significant amount" (allegedly up to 50% to maintain the level of service). There has been no objection from the customers. Aparently, some even said "what took you so long" They knew they were paying way below a realistic rate for far too long. This operator then gave their staff a significant pay rise straight away. Can any of our American friends confirm this?

Yes, that is true.
PHI, Petroleum Helicopters finally got a grip and increased rates 43% since last fall. Their revenue was around $127 million for FY 2000, but reported a loss of $23 million; also have pulled ops out of some foreign markets too. |
Insofar as PAY RAISE...
???? Still, after several months, that is a lot of talk...and is currently 'still' the hopeful gossip. Big operators and huge overheads usually means Lower Wages! Stay small, pay well, and earn hand over fist; it Is do-able;-) |
Part of the reason for the hike is the recent 200% (and more, to some companies) increase in insurance rates.
