Circling to land
In France, circling to land minimums and procedures are not applicable to helicopters. As I work now under the FAA rules, I tried to find if the same rule exists, but failed to find anything in the AIM.
Could somebody tell me is there is something written about the circling to land procedures for helicopters in the CFR 14? With my best regards |
helicopters are considered "category A" aircraft - circle to land minimums apply accordingly. visibilities can be reduced by 1/2 the cat A min's for helos (but never less than 1/4 mile). Cat A aircraft must remain within 1.3 miles of the runway while circling to land as stated in the AIM -
pick up a set of approach plates and the current FAR's if you don't have them already..... |
With regards to approaches, Canada is similiar to france . Helicopters do not have to use circling minima and can use the published straight in minima. In practice if you were doing an NDB approach to a "Black Hole " runway at night, you would probably want the added security of "circling minima".
