Swiss Explorer goes skiing

A Swiss EMS MD900 had an accident on 12 Jan. Having landed on a slight but snowy (presumably icy) slope and all personnel departed aircraft to assist an injured skier, the MD900 decides to get in on the action. After sliding down the slope for 50m it then finds things difficult and rolls over necessitating a lift out by K-Max!

Anyone care to comment on skid-equipped helicopters landing on snow/ice...?

Yes.

Some people never learn. Skid equipped helicopters should only ever land on choc-ice.

Can someone explain what choc-ice means please.. .Thanks

I always thought of it as an ice cream bar with a chocolate coating , but I'm sure it is something else in this context LOL

Choc(k)ice builds up in front of a skid or wheel and prevents the aircraft from moving.

It's probably nature's way of making up for yellow snow. :)
