What cruise speed for minimum DOCs?

Here's another new thought provoking thread! What cruise speed, eg fast cruise, max continuous power (or speed) less say 5%, best range or any other will provide the lowest DOCs? Let's qualify by type too, as it no doubt varies!

Not so new actually. Most manufacturers publish what is often referred to as "warranty power settings" in the RFM. Refer to that and you'll have your answer for the particular bird you're flying.

Thanks. Is this published as a torque or Ng setting or speed? Does anyone know typical numbers for B206, AS350/355, B407 and A109 out of interest and how they typically compare to speed from max continuous power?

Typically the numbers given are for Torque and Temp. In some cases (S76A++ comes to mind?) Ng becomes the limiting factor. Speeds are going to depend on more variables such as load, atmospheric conditions etc. and don't forget the general condition of the engine as evidenced by the most recent power check either.

When you say conditon of engine..what is the normal variation between engines before they become out-of-spec ?

Power wise ?

The cartoon "The Pilot" on your homepage is hilarious and oh-so -true.

Do you like the flying the 222 ?

Thanks Larry. Unfortunately I can't claim to be the originator. Copied it somewhere untold years ago and then scanned it.

The Triple Deuce is a little twitchy IGE but other than that, with the engine problems pretty well resolved, a great machine. Love that autopilot! The design was definitely way ahead of its time and fortunately lives on in the 430. Corporate passengers like it a lot too - remarkably quiet in the back.
