Landing on the Moors
 

Just trying to find out about obtaining pemission to land on the moors.

Is it the national parks or the farmers that have use of the moorland to graze?

If you are talking Peak District then it is the Peak National Park Special Planning Board.

There are bylaws applicable to all access land in the PNP that precludes/ prevents landing of aircraft (check out the bylaws on the back of any access point sign). There are similiar rules for the Lake District NP as well.

Outside of the Parks, normal permission by the landowner applies.

Also watch for English Nature ownership of land (SSSI's) which prelude a range of things including frightning wildlife.

Generally a no-no except for specific private sites (of which there are few ...)

(and don't end up like the 50 + aircraft wrecks that are there already)

If in doubt don't land where there's a risk of folk taking your reg and reporting you.
If its deserted no problem but make sure you it really is deserted. ;)
I did some flying over your Yorkshire moors with an English friend some time time back and we landed but we did a very good check there weren't any walkers about.

Don't be misled by how smooth they look as you fly over them. My engineer has tales of recovering aircraft which have tried this and sunk/ fallen down holes etc. Very embarrasing when you are not supposed to be there. I see you post from Manchester. United Utilities own large chunks of the West Pennine Moors. I dont know if they will give permission.

I had to make a precautionary landing to relieve the buildup of liquid... (ahem - behind a bush :O )

Dont rely on having a look around to check that no-ones there.
If its the Pennines theres ALWAYS someone up there. If they do dont see you actualy land they will see your approach/departure...!
Plus the local Police aircraft patrols up there regularly..

There's illegal shooting of Mr Archdales Grouses (Grand Larceny) and Pheasant Philtering, AND of course proles loose on the moors enjoying fresh air (treason, should be back in the workhouse, mixing the blacking).

There was the funny (??) case a couple of years ago when a pilot flying from Sheffield (and not familiar with the Peak District aircraft wreck "scene") saw an aircraft wreck on the moors and some people waving at him (well you wave at passing aircraft if you have been let out of the blacking factory for the day ...)

Stimulated quite a ASR search ...

Imagine what a helicopter 'down' on the moors would do.

NB remember the bylaws preclude landing of aircraft on access land so it would be a Police matter. Hang gliders have licensed / approved places to launch from, which is why they are allowed.

I must be missing something, what the hell is a 'wreak'?:confused:

I have never seen any aircraft that had actually landed on the moors wreaking anything, never mind havoc:=

.........except those that have come to grief, and become wrecks..!:E

If a Russian Havoc wrecked in the Moors...would it follow that Havoc had been wreaked over the Moors?

Local lowlifes from the city, go up on the hills, cruise the parking areas, and break into peoples cars whilst the owners are out walking. Easy pickings. Especialy on busy weekends when the weather is nice, there will be hundreds of parked cars around. Even if the owners saw them, they would probably be too far away to do anything about it.
Its a popular crime "up north"
Hence the patrols...!

Actually try Pennine Helicopters on the 'other side', as they do a lot of work for the Peak Park, and I've seen their machines doing mountain flying training and landing on Higger Tor
