Well,
There is no doubt that as you get older, you find it harder to assimilate and learn highly detailed stuff such as acft tech, but it is not impossible. The Army SSO's pass some pretty stringent aptitude testing prior to recruitment, and some of them have a solid aviation background. Some though get in with a bare CPL(H) and a $40,000 debt. But those guys will sit in the left seat as co pilot for at least a year, and will never fly SPIFR in anger. But no one is born a pilot....:cool: |

I dont wish to take anything away from the gye that got the slot, but! How does it make it fair, for people that go and hock their arsses in places like New Guinea, flying in some pretty dam tough conditions, who have earned some real aviation experience.:rolleyes: |

What the :confused: Have trained many older pilots and have never come across this phenomenon. By the way lots of guys get through without anything like a CPL and the accompanying debt. The only common thread for success is the desire to succeed no matter what obstacle may get in your way. A little brains and a lot of gut effort can still go a long way in this world. Lots of guys in AAAVN fly SPIFR in anger, sometimes even in fun, they are called QFI's.;) |

Being just a by-stander and reading this post it would seem that one of the positions had already been decided before the interview process had strarted:hmm:

VPAW Contract
This tread was about the Vic Police Contract.....if I'm right the tender went out about 4 years ago???
So....has anything happened....I gather by now it has all been finalised so what did VPAW end up with?:hmm: |

The Chief Commissioner recently said that Robbies were cheap to run...:}
But fear not. She also said that the crew would not take her up in the AS350 and they keep making some comment about only using twins over a built up area. They must really value the chief if they are taking such great care of her... |

I think the intention is to replace the 'C' with a new N3, and replace the Squirrel with a 135.
But, as always, this is set in wet concrete, and has not been signed off yet. |
Um, Riv as far as I know the contract has not been awarded yet, Vic Gov cannot be too hasty. Me thinks they are trying to figure out how to tell the losing parties that they went for aicraft not meeting the specs !! :ugh: Back out for tender perhaps?

GO FIGURE! I thought that by now a decision on the aircraft would of been made.....the guys at the Wing must be getting pretty frustrated with the whole thing. |
I think you will find the 'cops' have fulfilled their side of the business...more down to bean counters and other agencies....

Contract Calamity
CYHeli, the only reason the Chief wouldn't (couldn't) fly in a 350 is because with her on board the thing would be over max gross!! :oh:
Anyway, as far as the contract goes, the police and their bean counters will have to wait until the contractually chosen aircraft become obsolete before signing on the dotted line, which is probably a good thing as the aircraft will match the obsolete operational equipment,standards and pilots! It amazes me that an operation such as the Victoria Police Airwing is still suffocated by an inept management, who choose to waste money on whims rather than put it to good use in the operation. :ugh: An example being, they actually paid someone to tell them to change the POLICE logo to lower case because it's less intimidating. Ridiculous!! |

It wasn't that the 350 would of been over weight, it was due to the fact that they didn't have a big enough belt extender. I think the lower case lettering is very plesent on the eye and my feelings!:} I think that this thread time and time again keeps coming back to a common entitty, the victorian goverment, and the 2min xpert running with the wing! :cool: |
