From Northern NSW, Australia.

Something about the colours that make these stand out.

Must be hard to see through the window shades...

Hope you like them,

What the heck, one final entry....

Base pilot "Craig" practices with the local SAR team on Class D ( live human loads) rescues on Aug 8th. The belly band is utilized as a secondary safety system to the standard load hook. A spotter is seated in the back seat to release the belly band, if required.

Photo taken when I was laying on the ground beside the 2 SAR members about to be lifted.

Heliport / Autorotate,

Don't keep us in suspense... and the winner of the competition is?

Heliport 20th August 2004 05:23

Sorry to keep you in suspense a little longer.
It's not an easy job - the quality of entries is so high it's difficult to choose.

Ned and I will announce the winners next Monday, 23rd.

HeliEng 23rd August 2004 18:54

Who won?

Heliport,

Have you guys decided who won the photograph competition????

Are you going to post the winning photos?

"Mad as a mooing fish!"

AlanM 24th August 2004 06:38

Any news on the result??

Heliport 24th August 2004 19:21

Sorry guys.
I've been trying to contact Ned in New Zealand, but no luck so far.
He may have been called away on a rush photo assignment.
You'll know the results as soon as I do.

I've chosen the winner of Heliport's Prize, but that's an 'extra' to the main competition.
I think it's best if the winner of that is published at the same time as the others.

Heliport 25th August 2004 07:00

Apologies for the delay. Ned has been away on a photographic mission.

The quality of entries was extremely high, which made our choices very difficult.
When we got down to our 'short list', it became virtually impossible but, decisions had to be made, so here they are:

First Category: Images which show the beauty of the helicopter, either static or working

The winners, chosen by Ned - one of the world's leading aviation photographers - are:

The WINNER

http://www.helicopterservice.com.au/...midflypast.jpg
Rapid Response

Congratulations to SilsoeSid who wins:

(1) Two year subscription to Heli Ops.

(2) Video 'The Last Great Adventure' showing the history of live deer capture in NZ by helicopter. An awesome video with plenty of "holy !!!!e" action in it.

(3) The award-winning book The Chopper Boys, a pictorial history of animal capture in New Zealand. Combines two books called the Chopper Boys and the Helicopter Hunters.

(4) Publication of the photograph in the 2005 Helicopters at Work calendar - and 20 copies to give to your mates!

__________

2ND PRIZE - a tie

350B2 VIV first run of the day in the Monashee Range, BC

and

Self Portait

Congratulations to Squirrel and Canadian Rotorhead who both win:

(1) Copy of The Last Great Adventure Video.

(2) One year subscription to Heli Ops.

__________

3RD PRIZE- another tie!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...raigatWork.jpg
C-FALM

and

http://www.helicopterservice.com.au/...94%20scene.jpg
Univ of Michigan's 430 getting airborne at an accident

Congratulations to 407 Driver and C4 who both win a One year subscription to Heli Ops.

__________

Second Category: MODERATOR'S PRIZE: 'The image that Heliport likes the most'

This was a very difficult choice. With so many prizes already offered in the 'beauty of the helicopter' category, I decided it was fairest to choose my winner from the entries which captured the helicopter at work, regardless of beauty, photographic or artistic skills.
The winning photograph is one of my all-time favourite helicopter 'action shots' .......

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/...ary_Pickup.jpg
Catenary Pickup

Congratulations to Canadian Rotorhead who wins a copy of The Chopper Boys - a pictorial history of animal capture in New Zealand and includes a second book 'Helicopter Hunters'.

Many thanks to you all for submitting such high quality entries.
Congratulations to the winners, and condolences to those who just missed this time.

We'll be running another competition soon. First Prize will be publication of your winning image on the cover of Heli Ops magazine.

Thanks to Ned for donating the prizes.

Would all winners contact Ned (Autorotate) by PM or e-mail as soon as possible.
