Landing near Windermere
 

A firend of mine has a house on the shore of Lake Windermere, with a couple of acres of flat paddock at the back, not too many tall trees, etc - you get the picture. (Lucky b*gger).

Are there specific rules governing landing a heli in there? Would I have to get permission to land (apart from him as the owner of the land of course) - since it's in an AONB, National Park etc??

In general, I think the answer to your question is no, you don't need special permissions. I have certainly landed at lots of private sites in National Parks (with owners permission).

However, it is always possible that someone has created a local law/regulation that might prohibit such landings. If there were something special, the BHAB would probably know about it - you could give them a call.

But I may be wrong ........

A couttesy call from your mate to the local police would be a very good idea, just so they can fend off the 'I have seen a helicopter illegally low flying/landing/crashing' type of phone call.
A retired RAF officer recently claimed that the C130s flying low level round the West Country at night were in fact landing illegal immigrants!!!!!

There's a lot of activity over Windermere at the moment (I have just been on holiday up there), so take the usual precautions.

I was on holiday at the marina last summer next to windermere.
Every day without fail, tornado's / F15's / harriers used the lake as a turning point at approximately 250' msl. You could see their helmets as they cruised past!
They must have averaged about a dozen visits a day....
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN UP THERE IF YOU ARE FLYING IN THE AREA!:eek:

We have a Caravan Park at Ambleside, there are no restrictions on taking off or Landing in the |National Park, but the low flying jets are hurrendous I will only fly upto the Lake at week end when things are genrally quiter from the Military evn then taking off and landing can be a heart in the mouth job.
