Will the NH90 reach those dizzying numbers?

rudestuff 21st Jan 2023 04:44

Sorry to burst your bubble but they only ever made one as a prototype, the Blackhawk never went into production...

As sure as the earth is flat….

(But as we know, the name was originally used for the S-67 so there are actually 5001).

Wrong again....the S-67 was not called Black Hawk ,which is an Indian tribal name, but Blackhawk which is entirely different 😀😀😀

Sorry to burst your bubble but they only ever made one as a prototype, the Blackhawk never went into production...

Prototype: If you are referring to the original Sikorsky YUH-60/YUH-60A (S-70A) design model, I believe Sikorsky built 6 airframes (3 FTV's and 2 for ground use funded by the US Army and a 6th FTV Sikorsky funded in-house).

As for the name Black Hawk, it is my understanding that it was the US Army who gave the UH-60A this name and although the 5,000 plus airframes built are all directives of Sikorsky’s original S-70 design, it is also my understanding that only the UH-60 and Int’l S-70A/i/M “Utility Variants” airframes are designated Black Hawk, so that’s got to be well in excess of 3,000 Black Hawk deliveries would it not?

As always, I am happy to stand aside for the Winged S community across the Pond to provide a more accurate answer or clarifications.

Perhaps the first sentence of the OP's linked article clears things up:
"STRATFORD, Conn., Jan. 20, 2023 Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT), today delivered its 5,000th “Hawk” variant helicopter, a U.S. Army UH-60M Black Hawk."

Most helis can catch a Huey :E .

Having flown both the Huey is rather like driving a Mk 1 Land Rover. Nice in its own way but underpowered and slow.

The Black Hawk is like the later, V8 Land Rover.
