There are apparently currently a substantial number of K-Max's grounded for blade repair following this finding.

The Kmax can have a "midair" with itself if you cross control it at lower speeds (pedal and opposite cyclic) due to excessive flapping, it has built in teeterstops that must be engaged prior to shutting down.
It also has known about cracking servo flaps, it's a recurring inspection with flaps coming off every 100 hrs. Reality is it's an almost 100 year old design that is marginal at most things but good at lifting efficiency. It flies like an old tractor, it's rough, slow and sensitive to turbulence, and you have to muscle it around due to the lack of hydraulics in the cyclic (plus the cyclic shakes like mixer). |
