Canadian Coast Guard 429 Lost
 
National Post is reporting that the Canadian Coast Guard lost a Bell 429 in northern Quebec Thursday. Reported that the pilot who was the lone occupant was shaken but unhurt.

It would be interesting to see a photo of the entire antenna mast. Perhaps there is some impact damage near the top.

That last picture reminds me of my days of medevac, getting the train vs pedestrian call. Train always won.

Odd thing about trains....you do not.ever have to guess exactly where they will travel.

Rarely does a large steel mast bolted to a huge concrete base go wandering about either.

Before this thread goes completely “off the rails”. Accident report from a train VS Helicopter accident in Canada years ago: “Considering the differences in speed and maneuverability of the two vehicles types involved we find this a very strange event!”

Note the changing cloud/fog banks between pictures. Some of the cloud/fog looks quite low in the background. This time of year up north you are very frequently batting fog/low cloud to get any work done.

I've seen the result of heli vs mast before in NI and it ended up looking just like that.

It is often forgotten that many a mast have support wires which can be damn hard to spot if you have focused on something else, with haze its even more difficult to spot.
