Kawasaki BK117 hoists

Hey team, does anyone anywhere know if a Kawasaki Bk117 can have a Lucas/Goodrich hoist rather than a Breeze Eastern? I’m being told it can only have a breeze which doesn’t sound right to me. Prefer a Lucas because we do wet and deck wincing SAR and the higher speed of the Lucas is more important. Any help would be great!!

Draft an email, read it, then re-read it, then send it to your Federal Aviation Regulator (could be a long wait) or perhaps contact the National agent in your country, for Goodrich and ask them if it is certified in your regulatory framework. That way, any financial or time resources won’t be wasted with us “experts” on this Forum.

BK’s are a great aircraft for pocket jobs. Loved flying them, didn’t like the lack of fuel though.

Fly safe.

Let's ask the Google Aviation Administration, shall we?

Page 5 has your answer dependent upon the model, although the specific certification approvals for your application/regulator would need to be determined.

You should talk to Airwork in NZ; I'd be very surprised if they don't have an approval for that fit.
Very common in Australia

When we brought the first BK into Oz for NSW Polair in 1987, some options were limited:
We wanted a nose-mounted NightSun - sorry, it can only be on a tripod on the right side behind the door.
We wanted adjustable pilot seats for height and reach - sorry, fixed height only.

When it arrived, we found a catalogue of parts, some of which included nose mounts and adjustable seats. We bleated, "Why didn't you let us have these options?"
The answer: "You bought in Oz, which is in the sales area for Kawasaki. The Japanese are all a standard height, so no adjustment is needed for the seat."
"OK, let's buy the options from the Bolkow sales area and get what we want"
"No can do, Deidre, this new aircraft can only come from Japan. No German parts. Bye."

So, you might have a machine that was originally from Japan, not Germany, which might be why the options don't appear visible to you.

(The BK went for a swim 8 months later, written off, bought by a Tazzy firm and rebuilt. Subsequently crashed again a couple of years ago IIRC.)
