Can the experts help me?
I live near an old helicopter low fly area south of Cambridge and we get all sorts along there, Apaches, the odd Merlin etc etc and Chinooks. we also have lots of bl**dy feral pigeons which scatter in panic but only when there is a Chinook in the area it has always been so and my question is it a characteristic of the blades or the engines together which create some high Frequency harmonics which only seem to panic pigeons.if so l’d like to bottle and sell it!, okay I’ll get my coat now! cliver029 |
Interesting, have you tried recording the sounds and replaying them?
We have lots of crows at my work place, but they don't seem to be disturbed by any of the helicopters (no chinook). They do however scatter, when I clap my hands. |
During a landing on an unmanned platform I thought I heared music.
when I lifted my ear protection I clearly heared Dutch artist Andre Hazes singing “Een beetje verliefd” (A little in love) It showed that landside control room played this over the platform speakers to scare the seamews away before arrival of the helicopter. It was the only time I enjoyed listening to Andre Hazes. |
I wonder if he gets royalties for the public performance of his work?

So why pay his heirs for his non-performance? The seamews clearly did give **** about it. |

If a tune plays on a remote platform with nobody there to hear it, has it been performed in public? |

Worth noting that pigeons can actually hear much lower than humans (down to 0.3 Hz from memory, compared with human 20 Hz) so it might be the low frequency rather than high that upsets them.
