S76 shell for Film

Hi Guys,

Anyone got any leads into the shell of an S76? Can be damaged, in fact damage is encouraged, its for a crash scene in a film..

Thanks!

Simon

Simon, if you have any budget you can buy an S76 extremely cheaply at the moment and crash it however you want!

What he says about buying is probably true, then sell on the parts not required, as an example

I'm glad that the stereotype of helicopters appearing in films only to crash is being perpetuated.
Whenever I see one I count the seconds before it crashes, it's often not long. Sometimes I'm surprised and the protagonists get out safely, only for the helicopter to crash behind them on takeoff.
Hopefully you'll be able to add the Huey sound effects too! :ok:

The helicopter has been suffering abuse at the hands of Hollywood producers for decades. It needs to stop. We really need an industry representative on any set with a helicopter to prevent helicopter abuse, like the animal people. There should be a disclaimer at the end of the movie, too: "no helicopters were harmed during the making of this film".

Don't forget the sound off a turbine winding down coming in to land or winding up taking off

Argh. I see you are avoiding confrontation with the Robbie crowd by not suggesting the R44 soundtrack when it crashes.

Want to go to South Africa to pick one up? Maybe one there and could possibly be a serviceable one too.

Pretty sure I recently saw a C model advertised.

Might not be any good but I know of 2x 135 shells that are available

helihub 12th Aug 2021 11:24

EagleCopters in Alberta are parting out 76s and recently disposed of an airframe to a paintball park. I'm sure other airframes will be available there before long

Try Big Sky Aviation in Palm Beach Florida. They have 2 stripped airframes just sitting in their lot.

Since all the other helicopter movie clichees has already been proposed, why not add the classic Hueys and Fortunate son combination as well :p

'Fortunate Son' a 1969 track from rock band (or skiffle group, for those of advancing years) Creedence Clearwater Revival, popular with 'cab drivers' of the day in a remote corner of SE Asia

Preferably a Stuka dive bomber ;)!

Doors Off 19th Aug 2021 14:33

I second the fortunate son, turbine wind up/wind down for take off and landing. However, may I propose the “pew pew” sound with sparks from said abused, mistreated and inaccurately represented god of the sky? Oh, don’t forget the masses of beepers, horns and alarms. May I suggest you travel on a simulator recurrency trip (with a Trapper type who apparently “invented” helicopters (but their knowledge is secret) ) to gain the amazing multilayered cacophony of sounds.

I recall a friend posting some photos of a 76 hulk being used on a film set. ( I think in Vancouver or Toronto )
I have sent him an email asking for info.
I will post any info he sends me.

  1. I received this reply from my friend in Vancouver.
  2. “The retired airframe along with a second one are owned by a guy in Vancouver who supplies them to film productions. When i spoke with him briefly as he was loading it onto a flatbed after filming he told me he bought the 2 off CHC.”
  3. Anyhow that may be a clue to narrowing the search. A lot of films are shot in BC. So anyone with reasonable contacts in the business around Vancouver may well know who owns the 2 76 airframes.
