what, we don't have enough unemployed pilots right now? Must be linked to some kind of government gravy contract/apprentice scheme. Bristow cares not for its people. You're all just worker scum these days I'm afraid.

Are there really alot of unemployed helicopter pilots out there? I'd be suprised if that were true.

Quite a reaction there Sir Korsky, maybe you had a bad experience with Bristows in the past....

What you have to ask yourself is 'are Bristows really any worse than any other operator?'

I doubt that there is any room left in today's collapsing offshore support industry for touchy feely caring for staff by any operator. This does not make it acceptable but that is the current state of the business.

Kind of ironic that the background image for the cadetship ad is S92 G-IACD taxying at Scatsta which was killed off with unseemly haste last June when the IAC contract switched to Babcock, another 'caring' operator.

I get that. What really surprises me is that there seems to be no end to the corporate belief that they can pretend to value the little people and expect us to believe it. :yuk:

yup, and the last word for me is diversity. When we are all back in the mills, man women and child, working 14 hours days 7 days a week just to feed ourselves and keep our heads above water, then and only then, will we all be equal.

Some facts.

The helicopter industry, like air freight, has not been decimated by covid.

There are not lots of unemployed helicopter pilots in the UK.

The scheme is funded by Bristow, not the government or students, and the students are definitely not being used as cheap labour.

They’re a great company to work for, most offshore pilots can expect at least one Bristow redundancy payout in their career.

Gone are the glory days when "Gardening Leave" was the policy.

One would think you were working for Evergreen Helicopters.....except for the difference in the accents.

They used to tell you in New Guy orientation that if you stayed one year they would give you a Leather Flight Jacket.

What is it with websites that allow you to post anonymously? - It just promotes negativity and snide comments

Is there anything that could be posted here without someone bringing the mood down? It makes helicopter pilots look like such a bunch of whinging to$$ers! The GA forums are so much more fun to read and full of positivity, despite people passionate about aviation struggling to get a break into the industry. Lets hope at least a few of those get an opportunity here.

Anyway, this looks like good news. Well done Bristow!

It's called pragmatism sweetie ! Clearly you're not a helicopter pilot or have ever lived the life of one. This is a tough business and a cruel one. There is no space for woke pansies believe me. Are the Airline and Air Taxi groups as sour as you accuse the helicopter pilots of being?

It would be a better comparison of using another "professional pilot group" and see how they carry on.

Perhaps another comparison would be the l airplane Air Taxi sector....and compare that to the Commercial Helicopter Sector.

You cannot guarantee that - not everyone has the bitter views that you seem to have. I trained with Bristow in the mid-80s, went through two periods of full-time employment with them (including one (voluntary) redundancy), as well as many years working as a part-time contractor. My personal experience of 35 years associated with the company has not involved any “lies, mistrust, dishonesty” or any significant “assortment of ****”. They have always been very supportive, from the initial fully funded training, through instrument rating, type ratings etc, keeping me employed during a two-year period of medical issues, and welcoming me back into the company whenever my situation and their requirements coincided.

I do not suggest that everyone has had the same good experiences with them - certainly in recent years the crew room has not always been totally happy, but speaking to colleagues who have spent time at the other North Sea operators, most still seem to think that Bristow are a good company to work for, in difficult times for the industry.

Glad you got to experience the good ol Uncle Alan days - truly I am ! Things have changed now and corporate America is in full swing. My advice for anybody in this business, is use whatever companies you can to get ahead and line your own future. Take everything for free and always have one foot out of the door. Loyalty is just foolish pride these days. Literally, the worker/employee relationship is now just a showdown....who gets to shoot first.

Sadly true. When the Brits ran the show it was all good. Airdog bought them out and kept the name Bristow. Sad.

I love it when the Americans get the blame and no mention whatsoever of the Brit's contribution to the down fall of what was an amazing place.

Lots of folks need to look in the mirror each morning and think back to their "contribution" to the decline.

Just ask yourself how many times ownership changed hands and the effect of EACH sale had on the operation of and management philosophy of the new owners.....Air Dog just wound up holding the bucket at the end and did their own bit to take down the operation.

That PHI, CHC, and BHL all went bankrupt along with so many others should tell you something about helicopter operator's business models and management..

To be fair....other outfits went into the same decline and for much the same reasons.

I look back to the days when Pilots hired Pilots and Engineers hired Engineers....and Admin just did the paperwork.....these Operators did well

When HR Fiefdoms came along and that crowd of leeches started doing the hiring....that began the circular orbit about the drain pipe along with other factors.

Gone were the days you walked upstairs and sat down with a cup of tea and got a warm personal welcome by all and gathered at the Heli Club af Lunch or after work and shared a few Pints of the foaming ale.
