Anyone have a good excel for logbooking? I am getting tired of changing logbook mediums. I like paper, but I also like a digital backup in case the house burns down or something happens to them. I am tired of the apps that require a subscription service, or apps that up and go out of business. I feel like a basic excel is the way to go, but I don't really know how to make one of these. Any suggestions? Thanks folks.

Excel is great when you know how it works: you learn by doing. The advantage is that you have the 'raw data' which means you can make it to you whatever you want.
Start by setting the columns out how you like them (follow your paper logbook for guidance) then googling the various functions available in excel.
Most of it can be done with IF and SUM initially but you can go as advanced as you like with tick boxes, date functions etc which will tell you if you're in currency etc.

ah ha! Thank you both for the help. I'll consider both of these options. I really do need to learn excel at some point in my life, however the lazy $45 method is appealing=)

And it's perfectly possible in Excel to have the times in "h:mm" format if you prefer that to decimal hours - which I hate.

But your Hobbs ticks over in decimals. Maintenance logs are in decimals. And minutes are a pain to add up on a calculator, though Excel can probably cope with them.

I was extremely glad when, in the early 70s, our air force switched to decimals and my secondary job of keeping the training records of the Bograts in the squadron became much easier.

All my airline and rotary flying in UK was in hours and minutes, but I am sure decimal is the future. Just an old dinosaur talking.

Is it already allowed in the EASA world to log hours on anything else than paper? (Except for companies with an air operator certificate..)?

It actually looks fancy...
