I don't know what the OEI performance in those is like but hovering higher with a flyaway option would have been sensible it seems.

I've got a few hundred hours on that model. I'd say the OEI performance is just about as demonstrated (if that's what happened).
I'm not convinced a full flyaway option would have been possible, but a higher hover position should have allowed the aircraft to at least have been flown forwards and down to clear those working directly below. Looks like the aircraft landed on some sort of hump. |
