Heli SGI Indonesia
Good day All,
I see that SGI is advertising periodically for VRLL pilots on B407 as well as B412. Does anyone here have information about the company wrt work conditions and treatment of personnel. I am interested in applying, but it just seem like there might be a high turnover of crew. I might have the wrong impression and it is merely that they have more contracts requiring more crew. Any info appreciated. Please just stay to relevant facts (I know this is a rumour network) Thanks in advance. |
I applied with them in the past a couple of time...despite fulfilling and exceeding all their requirements, I never received any reply... And they did not pick up the phone when I tried to call them...
Have a look on blade slapper, there are a few people there that have worked there and are not very complimentary. There does seem to be a high turnover.
It’s a place to avoid unless your desperate. Bladeslapper has it spot on.
I was offered a Drill job with SGI 2019 in Sumbawe Indonesia. Process with HR was long, needed lots of documents that usually wouldn’t be required for an experienced long line pilot. HR were extremely friendly to deal with. SGI offered 6/6 touring from the US with flights paid for or relocation to Bali. Offer was $100,000 USD per year so not terrible but not worth the headache of traveling across the world every 6 weeks or relocating.
$100K/year sounds like B407. 212 drivers were on $100K almost 20 years ago (certainly in PNG, maybe not in Indonesia).
Thank you all for the info. I also heard around $100k/year for 407. However there is also a 26% tax to be paid in Indonesia.

Definitely not worth it for that sort of money. Management will do your head in, you will be expected to extend your tour all the time due to the lack of crew from the high turn over of staff. The job adverts are not due the expansion of the company.
Be very careful |
Working in West Papua at altitude and living in remote bush camps (from what I understand) should attract a hefty salary.
Listen to DonJohnson lads! It’s not worth the grief!! Seriously
Same ownership that got hold of Heli Niugini. Once a serious operator in PNG. Now on the brink of extinction in PNG. You can put two and two together from that perhaps.
It’s a shame it was a good company. You can work out why sort of company it is when owner of this company refers to his pilots as cockroaches.
Thank you all for the feedback. Easy to make that decision.:=
I doubt anyone new to this company could get in to Indonesia at the moment due to COVID.
I'd imagine all the companies who rely on touring pilots will be struggling a bit. Or has the work died down? |

Edit : Not the lads doing the fixing and flying. More the "management". Sal |
Soon to join SGI - Need some advice
Joining SGI soon, I'll be based in Timika...
I have a few questions, would appreciate your comments - do's and don'ts... - What is the accommodation like at the main base in Timika, will I need a bathroom towel, stuff for mosquitos, my own soap, etc? - Is there a TV, wifi, kettle, etc in the room? Are you allowed to use Netflix or is there limited bandwidth or restrictions by the client? - Is there a gym, or pool available to keep fit when not working? - Is this a dry camp (No Alcohol) allowed? - Are movements restricted to the main camp and airport only or is one allowed to venture into town to buy toiletries and other goodies? - What is the working environment like, is the client very difficult. Is there a standard dress code. - Laundry at the camp is there an issue with personal clothes missing on a regular basis, should one plan to bring extra socks, underpants etc.. - Should I consider getting a local SIM card or will this be provided upon arrival? - What wall plugs are used there, the same as the UK, Australia, or other? - Any other suggestions or advice... - If you work less than 180 days in-country, do you get your tax back from the Indonesian Gov? - As a new employee, I believe the first stop is Bali - What is the process there, and how many days does it normally take? What is the name of the area and accommodation where crews are housed during this period? Thanks in advance for those able to assist with the above, Much appreciated. |

He has just got a job in these difficult times. Give the guy some slack.
If you work less than 180 days in-country, do you get your tax back from the Indonesian Gov? I was there for two weeks. Tax refund? Forget it. You give your origin as South Africa and you are going to work in Indonesia. You ain't seen nothing. Just busk it as you go along. |
I don't think non Indonesian residents can enter the country at the moment and won't be able to for a while yet. I wouldn't resign from any other job until your travel was established.
