Recruitment Agencies

I have been looking into contract work, so i put some feelers out and i was surprised by the response but also 4 different agencies offered me the same position but all varied in rates offered. I was wondering how much commission these agencies would receive if they placed me with a company. Is it a one off payment or would they receive a monthly amount?

14/14 European location by any chance? Just go direct to the operator

I leave here my opinion on these "recruitment agencies"....They are a scam.....

What they do is what every pilot looking for a new job does.....they look online for job advertisements from operators and then they change the add it as they're own advertisements on behalf of a operator.... So for me basically they are leaches trying to get money from pilots looking for jobs.

Just pay attention to some job offers out there.......compare the ones from the operators to the ones from this recruitment agencies.....they are the same....the only difference is that the agencies don´t show the name of the operator recruiting.

Safe landings

If you

ISTR (maybe from a previous thread on here) that the Agency is often paid the equivalent to your day rate for each day worked. So, in effect, the employer is paying a 100% markup for the 'convenience' of using an agency.

Hence go direct, cut out the vultures and negotiate your rate

I didn''t realise it was that much! I thought maybe a finders fee and a monthly amount whilst under contract.

I've been looking for my first job in Asia, so been dealing with countless agencies the last few months :ugh: They all seems to offer similar options. What I do know is dependant on the contract you going with the airline either pays a once off fee for you and doesn't hear from the agency again about your contract. Or if you going to be paid through the agency the airline pays a monthly fee to have you for as long as you on contract. For some airlines they have no choice but to use an agency (compliance apparently) as I looked at going direct with a few, but no option??!!

Still not sure which agency is 'best' to go with! They all seem like they just interested to get you a job and not to answer any questions/concerns!!!!

Yep leeches. Not sure on exact mark up. But all of the TARCG, LineUp, Zenon, Helispeed scammers are the same just sometimes dressed up differently with varying levels of BS. I even had one phone me for a supposed vacancy in Aberdeen that I knew no longer existed. So some aren’t even smart enough to do any research. It’s hilarious. Utterly pointless middlemen, or women. Some take it even further in their efforts and claim to act ‘exclusively’, check one of the above mentioned companies and their attempts to recruit on behalf of ADA in the Middle East. Nothing to do with their ops manager and ADA chief pilots extra curricular activities...

Totally agree - greedy middlemen looking to make a few £££. Always apply direct. Once gave up a good job for one with Zenon only for them to tell me it wasn't going ahead 2 weeks before I was due to start. Fortunately I had back up options!

In my experience, the commission on day rates is around 15% of contract value for sophisticated markets/ jurisdictions and can be significantly more than that in problem places. Not sure I've ever seen 100% commission though.

It will depend on the type of employment as well. So as contractor then they get a % of your monthly income; but as a permanent employment then is a fix placement fee paid once. The numbers also change depending on the market and region, for example in Asia was around 15k USD for CPT TR for permanent employment (LTC)
