BRS / CHC Merger

Overheard at DFW airport departures! Any views on a Blue / Orange combination and what it means for the industry

industry insider 17th Jul 2019 13:07

There could be some synergies.

BRS has 20+ Milestone (GE) S-92s eligible for be return as a by product of CH11 and Milestone is also a huge investor in CHC having taken an equity position against lease returns. Maybe Milestone will take a sizeable stake in BRS for the same reason and force the two together?

Take two previously very successful companies that have been mismanaged into the dirt - and merge them.

What could possibly go wrong? 🤔

TWO very successful companies ??

peter manktelow 18th Jul 2019 13:33

I am showing my age but there was a time last century when BLUE had a seat on ORANGE's board with 25% ownership. It worked then......for a while anyhow. Mind you , it was BRIT + CANUCK as opposed to what would be YANK + YANK.

Miss the flying. Miss the lads and ladies but don't miss the BS.

No different than the US Airways/American Airlines merger. Take two poorly run airlines and make a bigger poorly run airline.

Sumpor Stylee 18th Jul 2019 21:21

Or take one company under chapter 11 process and merge with another past chapter 11 tale facing a second round of the same....🤫

Perhaps it’s the way to avoid round 2 of restructuring, surely they wouldn’t survive it again. Could a CEO get away with it twice over? Suppose he was hailed a success first time out despite the unfathomable share ratio change to avoid delisting from NYSE fail in spectacular fashion! Yet he kept his job.

Brave New World

They could combine the already massive HR/IT/Q&S departments, sack the last of the Pilots/Engineers/Ops staff, employ some more “Business Partners”/SLT, and have the ultimate “Safety. HR. Information Technology” company!!

Bristow and Okanagan (now CHC) were two of the most successful helicopter companies in the world.

Emphasis on WERE!

Exactly my point.

These two once fine companies were driven into the dirt by grossly incompetent management.

A merger would just double the incompetence.

That was pre-HR, HSE, and all that other silliness that modern corporations have embraced.

Also....the outfits were run by Pilots and Engineers.....not bean counters who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing!

I was a job manager in the Beaufort Sea at the time so I would often be in meetings with our customers, Esso, Gulf and Dome and Okie's managers.

Many of the oil company guys were my friends.

We go for a beer afterwards. The comments were hilarious - and kinda sad.

Nescafe 19th Jul 2019 03:37

To combine management, clients and assets of BRS and CHC seems to be an ideal way to create a company that is less than the sum of its constituent parts.

SASless 19th Jul 2019 05:08

Hey....so they both made a small fortune in the helicopter business.....havng started with a large fortune each.

That is exactly right, sad, but 100% correct.

Okanagan was very successful long before Dobbin (CHC) bought it. Things went downhill from then on.

Nice to see a glass half full type of guy :ok:

SASless 19th Jul 2019 12:48

If you believe there is ever a "Merger" possible....keep on dreaming.

In a "merger" one entity is taken over by another entity....there can only be one Lead Horse in a team.

In this case....should it happen.....CHC shall take over BRS....if this "merger" were to take place.

Look back to Omniflight and Silver Star.....or Air Log and Bristow for that matter.
