S-92s on the road through Queensland

Spotted on the road through Queensland, past Roma going toward Brisbane: look like a pair of S-92s but intrigued to know where from, whose they are and where they're going? I guess they could be out of Broome/Derby but boy, is that a long haul by road :hmm:

Anyone?

They are probably ex-CHC S92s LWJ & LWU, now off lease, heading from Broome to Brisbane.

Word on the street is they are Bristow 92's out of Broome going to Brisbane.

BRS has 3 out of its in country fleet of 5 S-92s in Karratha being prepared to go to the UK after the loss of the Inpex contract. A BRS AW139 is also heading out of country.

So these may well be CHC aircraft ex the Shell contract which has a 50% fleet reduction now the Prelude is just about in production.

Huh, and here I was for a moment thinking Toll had Shanghai'd them to slot into their NSW ambulance contract.

industry insider 24th May 2019 12:53

I'm sure they are available as if they are CHC then they are lease ships from Milestone (GE)

As big as Australia is - why don't they fly them .

Nescafe 24th May 2019 15:42

They have fired all the pilots.

CHC machines returned off lease, handed to lease company in Broome , their problem how they move them out from Broome.
LWJ 920255 and LWU 920289, fairly new machines but expensive leases, kept the older machines on cheaper leases. AC belong to Vertical Aviation Ireland.

Bristow shipping a couple more 92's back to the UK in a few weeks.

Whilst they're down in the UK, it will probably be a good time to upgrade them from the recently announced S92-A to the -B option of better performance kit?

Bristow will be shipping back MSN 920105 (VH ZUH) MSN 920203 (VH ZUO) and MSN 920270 (VH ZUJ). All are currently in YPKA having RIPS re installed.

I've not seen anything in the press release that indicates an increase in performance, other than better "hot and high" performance of the CT7-8A6. The engine upgrade is also described as an "option", rather than being a standard for the A+. The N Sea doesn't qualify as either hot or high :)

An operator funded upgrade will only happen if there are either payload (reduced fuel burn) or direct operating cost benefits. Although the promise of a gearbox that fully complies with the "loss of oil" certification requirements might be enough for some oil companies to insist on (and fund?) the upgrade when it's available.

Thanks to all for such informative replies: interesting what you see while riding around Australia!

Any news yet on the award of the Shell contract out of Broome yet? CHC hanging onto it or HNZ taking it on?
