Helicopter crash HK
One of my uncles brought this story to my attention earlier on as there has been a fatal helicopter crash earlier today in Hk. HKGFS new Airbus H175 is assisting in recovery efforts RIP https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/...botanic-garden |
Someone with more knowledge on this, the wreckage looks like an R44, am I correct? I am familiar with the HK operation.

Updated to say R44 |
Thanks, I'm with it now. I have hours on KTK from way back. The area has few options if things go wrong. Sad to see.
|
If it broke up mid-air as reported, how few options there are wouldn't matter much. |
Presumably it broke up in flight due to pilot fail to maintain NR after power loss.
|
There's a very large set of power lines that runs along the side of the valley and through the gap in the hills that the R44 was very close to. Would not be surprised if he has hit them.

Tragic
I wonder if the newly-formed, 'independent', AAIB will uncover the ludicrous lack of credible safety oversight for private helicopter training and standards in HK? Maybe, maybe not and this is only a rumour network........ Previous inconvenient accident investigations have usually take too long to provide anything useful - apart from time for certain individuals and Departments ;-) RIP Not a nice place to fly.....Nothing happens in a timely manner in Honkers - even when it's an 'open and shut' case |
