Outstanding precision work :ok:

This is very typical of most fire pilots here in the US....We are getting LOTS of practice this year in California---another one just broke out an hour ago that is going big.

We had a ‘Crane “Maria” swinging a 2000 gal bucket on a fire I was on. Saving a small Northwest town, 300,000 gals in the few days I was there.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.gmf...50c48ff1b8.png

Brilliant !!!!!!

We don't get to see it in the video, but would one shot like that be enough to extinguish the fire that had engulfed that tree? Looks like it would be.

No, all helicopters do is slow the fires progression so the ground resources can put line in.

If it was a single campfire and the crane centered a 2000 gal load on it, then yes. But like Gordy says that isn’t the way wildfires burn. In my area there were 65 new fires from a single thunderstorm/lightning front that went through. A week later the resulting fires covered about 4000 hectares and growing. All the bucketing did was support ground efforts and help preserve infrastructure (bridges, roads, buildings) where ground could not access or was too dangerous to access.

I am somewhat inexperienced in helicopter fire fighting, so please excuse my question - but what significant advantage does it provide by swinging the bucket like that, or is it just something to break the boredom?

evil7 10th Sep 2018 12:08

He never swung any bucket (it is an aircrane!), he just aimed the load-release.

Sorry, I thought you meant the video and not the comment with the picture
