Weather cameras Australia

Hi everyone,

For those that haven't seen the weather cameras thread:

https://www.pprune.org/pacific-gener...b-cameras.html

I realised that I've been neglecting our helicopter friends!

Have a read of the thread and feel free to contribute, or contact me via the website or PM. This is not a commercial venture and is a very low cost solution for the benefit of pilots, flying schools, charter operators and interested persons.

If someone can please give me a direct contact at perhaps MF or PHS that would be great. It's hard to call reception and not get firewalled by the receptionist when you call places as it sounds like I'm trying to sell something! I don't blame them to be honest as they probably get heaps of calls trying to sell them stuff.

It literally blows your mind. No wonder Dick Smith donated $160k to kick off an Aussie version of the Alaska system. Even what looks like a small island off to the south has more than half a dozen of them. Impressive effort by the FAA and whoever else was involved.

Good thread: I fitted a remotely steerable camera at my hangar about 2004 so that the pilots could check from home what weather to expect, and it was a great asset.

With so many good cameras available these days at much lower prices I would have thought this thread a similar aid to any operator and their pilots.

Is that camera still there and operational?
If so could it be included in the webcam’s available to be used by all pilots, as are the other webcams Squawk7700 is helping get set up?

Sorry but no: I sold the business in 2007 and the new owners didn't continue with the camera

The issue with the steerable camera is that it's not suitable for Ozrunways if someone leaves it pointing in a non-ideal location as Ozrunways and similar scrape an image every few minutes to make a time lapse. Not the end of the world, you could easily fit both, with a steerable one costing a more and a $50 one for the stills.

The other issue with the steerable camera is that they don't work on 4G connections unless you pay a lot more and the data usage is a killer. That being said, every site and requirement is different.

John are you still flying for the big "P" mob? Am trying to get hold of the boss "B" but no reply as yet. No word from the other mob MF as there receptionist is like a Kaspersky virus scanner and not letting anything through. Would like to fit one on the Yarra building(s). Feel free to advise who to contact... I am working in CBD at the moment and have a brilliant view of the approach and pad on the Yarra where PHS land but they aren't into aviation so wouldn't be keen on it :-(
