Just got 23,000 hours during power-line patrolling.
Not tired yet.:}

Vertical Freedom 26th Mar 2018 14:06

Well done spencer17....bloody amazing effort!:D

& Sir any tips, advice on flight safety & Airmanship please from Your experience(s) would be greatly appreciated? Thank You :ok:

spencer17 26th Mar 2018 15:02

Thanks VF,
don't expect to many tips, just 2:
1. Use common sense when flying (rules can't cover everything)
2. If you don't feel comfortable with the task just don't do it, even if someone has done it before.

Bellrider 26th Mar 2018 18:42

Respect! Powerline was always my most horrible job in helo business !
All the time under powered in BH06 and wind comes always from the wrong side.....
23k hours 😳😳 and you are not tiered! Sorry, but you must be a little bit insane, aren‘t you?? 😂😂

Some say so, but as long as I enjoy it (not especially the power-line thing).
Up here in the north we have a good variety of jobs, so it doesn't get boring.

So what is involved in the variety Spencer 17?

CRAN 26th Mar 2018 21:54

Fantastic Achievement. I too would love to hear of some of the highlights and lessons learned.

Fly Safe.

How many logbooks does 23,000 flying hours fill?

spencer17 27th Mar 2018 05:17

How many logbooks does 23,000 flying hours fill?
4 big logbooks before I started to record in Excel.
The Excel spreadsheet now has 3.504 lines.

So what is involved in the variety Spencer 17?
Hello TC, everything you can hook to it (fish, concrete, fertilizer), spraying, power-line, line stringing, you name it.
Many moons ago also pax (but I didn't need that):}

Not to forget the weather up here can make it very interesting.:ouch:

Thomas coupling 27th Mar 2018 11:38

How many years have you been load lifting then?

Presumably you were only Day VFR?

Frying Pan 27th Mar 2018 12:19

I would hope day VFR for that type of flying work TC. It's risky enough as it is without adding night and any IFR restrictions.
Well done Spencer 17 big for the big milestone. Look forward to your 25th (thousandth) :ok:

Cheers FP

albatross 27th Mar 2018 12:40

Well done!

Ascend Charlie 28th Mar 2018 10:42

It takes 4000 hrs to get to the moon and back at 120kt, so you have been there and back 5 times and are currently halfway back from the moon on your 6th run.

Enjoy the view! Watch out for that space junk.

spencer17 28th Mar 2018 17:46

How many years have you been load lifting then?
Hello again TC, since 1983/4. Army before.
I have about 19.000 aerial work, from spraying, lifting, survey etc.

spencer17 28th Mar 2018 17:54

@Ascent Charlie: that doesn't work for me. Spraying, fertilizing and external loads don't go fast. Maybe half the distance.

Thomas coupling 28th Mar 2018 21:46

That's almost 2 hours a day, 7 days a week, 56 hours a month, 650 hours a year, for 34 years!
Load lifting.

Load lifting.
NOT ONLY LOAD LIFTING! All kinds of aerial work.
Did about 20 years 800 - 850 hours AG, photo and fertilizing.
