206L to 206B training requirement?
What is the required training for a 206L3 pilot who wishes to fly a 206B for the first time? EASA/UK please.

For private flying I don't think there is any mandated training as they are both covered on the same type rating. For an AOC you will need differences training as required with the Chief Pilot or TRE. But I think you should fly with an instructor in any case for private flying to pick up on the differences.
Things could be worse...at one time L1 to L2 or L anything else also needed Diffs! |
Hi Idle Stop - this may have changed in the very recent past and if not, it may well change in the near future; however, up until very recently (weeks at most), you have not required an ATO to carry out differences training, it can be carried out by any suitably qualified TRI.

Thanks for the info, so just an FI/TRI required to do differences. In terms of a course syllabus, as there is no OSD published for 206L to 206B the instructor can simply create their own?

My introduction to 206L was "there it is, off you go the client is waiting". No FI/TRI required.

Thanks Gulli' this -
https://www.easa.europa.eu/download/typerating-lists/EASA-T_R_List_Helicopter.pdf Seems to suggest differences training is required? |
Yeah...I was just pointing out how it used to be done, and not in EASA land.

gulliBell, my first flight as pilot of a 206B was in a machine without duals!
The "captain" was in the left seat telling me what to do. Luckily just an intro flight, I already had 3000+ hrs in other Bell products, and there were no training sequences to cover, but still an unusual thing to do! And it was 1978...probably wouldn't happen today. |
