Any videos of helicopters in formation with planes?
There's a great scene in the film Air America of a Huey in formation with a plane (might be a Turbo Porter, from memory).
I've been trying to find some videos of helicopters flying next to planes just for my own pleasure and can't find anything at all! I was wondering if anyone has anything they can share? Seems so rare. |

NPAS had a three rotary and one fixed wing flypast over London for National Police Memorial Day last September.
http://www.npas.police.uk/news/natio...ly-past-nati-0 With all those cameras up there, I'd expect there to be some more footage around somewhere ...... https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8417/...25571cc5_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8233/...73426909_b.jpg Acknowledgement to 5DII at: Flickr photos tagged npas | Picssr |
I flew a gazelle in formation with a Catalina once! (At least I thought it was a formation, the Cat pilot and the resulting photographs indicate that at least we were in the same ATZ :) )

Have a look at Coulson aviation.

I flew in very close formation with a C130 a few times, in fact "plugged in" for air to air refuelling. I didn't have any spare capacity to take pictures (but photos wouldn't come out because it was dark anyway).

Historic Army Aircraft Flight are on the display circuit as a RW/FW show. They normally transit around the country in formation.

I don't think the fixed wing guy made it easy for the rotaries to formate on him/her in this vid :ok:
Bit better in this one ... |

OK, not a video, but worthy of mention

Did some for the BBC once. Hot formation on Ju52 when it was being flown from Spain to the UK. (Now in SA, I believe). The same time Ray Hanna flying a Spitfire in formation on the 52 and then my Puma.
They should still have the footage |
Thanks for sharing those everyone, pretty cool to watch.

My late Father in law had a still of me in a '47 G5 VH-BHM, just finishing my gig as Barry Hemple came by on his take off roll in his MiG 15 at the Cairns airshow in '92 celebrating the 50 th anniversary of the Battle of Coral Sea. I didn't know that the tower radio was live to the spectators, so my comment, "Sorry there Barry couldn't quite up with you." as we both pulled up together drew a bit of hilarity. It would have made a cool video shot, but there you go. I had managed to stay with him for about four seconds.
Another time a friend of mine and I had planned to do a short bit of formation flying with the fastest G5 we had at VRD and he in his F 18 as they can fly quite slowly, but unfortunately he departed before time. |
Sadly a Falklands combo of Sea King plus Herc never made it onto video - the Sea King crew were all too busy pedalling hard to wield a camera, while the Herc crew couldn't manage to hold a camera steady, what with all the buffet-nibbling...

There's a photograph at Aldergrove of a Phantom with two Pumas in Vic formation. They could only do it when the Tomb was on it's last flight as a Navy aircraft as when the Maintenance Unit converted it to RAF spec it was too heavy to fly that slow.

If nobody else wants to post it, I will.
About the tightest formation you will find for their size!! Cheers SLB |
There was a rumour that 820 Sqn's disembarking formation post-Falklands included a Chipmunk for a short while. No video as far as I know but what was that all about?

Dutch Apache with Belgian F-16 filmed from a porter if I remember correctly...

Here’s my two cents . . . check out “ DUST UP “ TV series We were in a 206 , big camera is down on the nosemount. https://vimeo.com/tree . |
No video or pics unfortunately.
Flying a UK Chinook on a task, in Germany, a couple of decades ago. My task took me to Norvenich. I was approaching their IP South for a VFR arrival, at about 500 ft agl. I checked in with Tower, and they said 'Are you visual with the F4, on your right?' I glanced right, to sea an F4 slowly cruising past, very close. Very high AOA, everything dangling, blown air going like the clappers, pilot and WSO grinning at me and waving! Just past me, burners in, everything up, and disappeared into the distance at the head of a long black smoke trail. |

You might try googling: "In flight refueling, helicopter" and click "video."
You'll get a ton of videos of various helicopters flying in formation with fixed wing aircraft. |

A rather ragged formation of Sea Devon and four Whirlwind 9s of Culdrose SAR flight.
