Are others as confused as I am ? |
They are flying missions all over the place. Regular visitors to the north west of England. Word is that they are getting bigger aircraft and a second base.

Have seen this at Coventry when I have been in there.

If you want to check the numbers then there are accounts and other financial information available online for air ambulance organisations. Typically, they spend roughly half their income on air ambulance ops. Then there is a major back-room effort to get the money in but which sucks up a lot of the money itself. In some of these organisations their accounts reveal £100k+ CEO salaries. It is at that point that I become really pleased that I live in Scotland.

If you understand anything about the world of air ambulance 'business development' then I think that this is a key statement in explaining the whole childrens air ambulance phenomenon. |
I chose my words VERY carefully

From being a pariah the Children's operation appears to have been accepted by even their 'competitor' air ambulances and despite them "poaching" for fundraising across the UK. Its not a rule that they cannot but it still makes the others mighty uneasy.
At one time they were an independent and most of the money went towards funding a nice big house in Torquay. Then the people in Coventry took them over and they slowly became acceptable. In addition the squidgy 'Childrens' title helped fund themselves and the other two associated air ambulance operations [and their CEOs] by being able to fundraise out of area [nominally they are based in the Midlands]. Not sure whether they still have the big house in Torquay anymore [but I think they might!] Things must be going well though as they are expecting a new AW169 [well in truth lots of people are waiting for an AW169 air ambulance..... anyone seen one in service?] |
Always seemed like a good earner for those running the show.
