Bell 412 range figures
Evening everyone, can someone shed some light on the massive difference of the flying range of the Bell 412? I've been googling the information and there are loads of different figures, starting from 310 miles up to and above 610 miles. I know that the figures will depend on equipment carried and there are more efficient engines on later models but that does seem a huge difference.
Thanks in advance for any help. Regards Thorpey. |
Aux tanks.

I guess it depends on how much gas you put in? :)

Pretty sure different models have different tank arrangements plus AUX tank options of left/right or both.
The big difference being the main tank. |
Fuel tankage as follows.
412 S/N 33001-33107 211.4 U.S. gal. usable S/N 33108 thru 33213, 36001 thru 36086 330.5 U.S. gal S/N 33108 thru 33213, 36001 thru 36086, 412EP With Left or Right Auxiliary Tank 412.1 U.S. gal With Both Left and Right Auxiliary Tanks 493.8 U.S. gal. Usable S/N 33001 thru 33107 With Left or Right Auxiliary Tank 293 U.S. gal With Both Left and Right Auxiliary Tanks 374.7 U.S. gal. 412EP 330.5 U.S. gal 412CF 317.3 U.S. gal With Left or Right Auxiliary Tank 399.0 U.S. gal With Both Left and Right Auxiliary Tanks 480.7 U.S. gal |
Realistically, a Bell 412 HP or EP burns about 720 lbs an hour.....
You got the fuel figures posted above.....do the math... |
412 Fuel Burn
Huey,
I would use a slightly higher figure of 765 lbs/hr at 75/75 Mast torque with a TAS depending on aircraft configuration - specifically float fit. Apical floats 110 kts Standard Bell Floats - 115 kts No floats - 120 kts I once flew an HP with tricycle wheel gear which used to bat along at 130kts plus but don't think there are any left flying! Like you said - use Megan's figures and do the Math. I still believe beeping back to 97% NR helps even though Bell have an undisclosed problem with that! Trog |
412
Thanks for that, much appreciated.

I have never been able to push the to use more than 740 lbs/hour...not even when heavy.......but of course, if you have floats etc., figures might be higher...
