SHOLs

I am looking for a favour from anyone who is a bit (or a lot) more current than me on deck landings. I have been asked to do a trial/demo of a deck landing of a helicopter on a non-NATO warship. I don't think this ship will have an official SHOL, and certainly not for this helicopter. Can anyone please remind me if there is a standard generic SHOL to use in situations like this? And remind me of what "d" value I should have as a minimum? (Its been about 14 years, and I don't want to get wet!)

Thanks in anticipation!

If your client has the budget, you may want to do a short course first.

Two weeks with ETPS; https://www.etps.qinetiq.com/courses/Pages/hsit.aspx

Or five days with NLR; http://www.nlr.org/capabilities/helicopter-ship-qualification-training/

Nice idea, but I'm in-country and need to do the demo soon. I think the civvy equivalent requirements from CAP437 suggests landing area of 1 x D, plus obstacle free zone of another 0.33 D in front, so I am hoping the helideck will be at least 1.33 D long and 1 D wide (haven't got the dimensions yet!)

A Crab, interested by the question but only with a short detachment to the "Old" Ark (R08?) in the 70's, I comment only from the perspective of the technical issues surrounding the operations.

I dredged this up on the web and was fascinated by the degree of complexity in these operations...I cannot claim anything other than webcrawlers rights. :ok:

It gets interesting from around page 49.

IMAGEGEAR, many thanks - found what I was looking for on page 80 - a conservative generic SHOL for US Navy!
