Low Flying Scotsman

Some interesting flying today with this BBC AS355 filming the first run of the Flying Scotsman steam train for many years. Source is a screen grab from 1m34s into this video

Hope he/she had their low flying clearances sorted.

Fantastic timing PCB, if you'd tried to set that up up it would have been nigh on impossible!

Wageslave 26th Feb 2016 09:37

Unfortunate? Got him a freebie ticket to Atlanta when RB heard about it. I'd call that a real result!

And the difference between the passengers on the Virgin train and the Scotsman??

The pax on the Scotsman didn't resent the ticket price and they all got a seat:ok:

Variable Load 26th Feb 2016 17:35

Great video of a Virgin Trains IC225 and it's associated Class 91 locomotive.

What was that polluting slow train going the other way? :E:E:E:E

Regarding the comments about having the low flying cleared, and the response hopefully they have as someone has made a Freedom of Information request to the BBC to ask about the low flying involved https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/reque...ews_helicopter

In the meantime I'd love to see the footage from the helicopter involved as it must be spectacular.

Dear old Mr Willmore , He just hasn't been the same since the awful incident in the changing room . And he used to be So much fun

ShyTorque 27th Feb 2016 10:16

He's asking the wrong organisation to see "their" permission anyway. It's not up to the customer, but the aircraft operator.

Was the "Flying Scotsman" in the latest videos the real "Flying Scotsman" as I saw a train out here in OZ for our Bicentenary that was supposedly to be the "Flying Scotsman"?
It had the number 4472.
It happen to be in Sydney at the same time as the bicentenary air show was on at RAAF Richmond.

Self loading bear 27th Feb 2016 17:19

Yes it is the same engine as you saw 1988-1989 in Oz. However in active service the engine has been renumbered, modified and repainted several times. During the various restaurations all different liveries have passed again.
I guess Airbus is actually quite old fashioned by renumbering it's product range.😃😃
Cheers SLB

Good grief, Mr A Willmore... is a serial FOI questioner... Doesn't he have anything better to do...??:=

Stanwell 27th Feb 2016 19:33

Yes, the selfsame, 601.
As Self loading bear says, she was in Oz in 1988/9.
I was priveliged to witness her working hard over the Blue Mountains at the start of her trip across the continent.
To commemorate that visit to Perth (WA), they named a hotel there "The Flying Scotsman".

On that same journey, she ran non-stop from Parkes to Broken Hill, a distance of 679 kilometres - setting a world record for steam locomotives.
During her visit to Australia, she travelled a total of more than 45,000 kilometres.

She was, no doubt, pleased to get home for a bit of a rest after that.

I should mention that her running mate for most of those travels was NSWGR C38 class Pacific, 3801.

Mr Wilmore got the cold shoulder...

John R81 1st Mar 2016 12:28

Mr Wilmore makes a strong case for the introduction of a fee for FOI requests - I say £200 a time.

Though just reported that politicians have again ruled out fees to weed-out silliness
