S92 over Sheffield today. (Tuesday 27th.)
Please excuse a question from an enthusiast. An S92 flew half a circuit around Sheffield city centre today, before disappearing to the north west, then re-appearing a short time later, roughly on a reciprocal heading, back across the city centre, then turning east-ish before gradually vanishing from sight some minutes later.
In a very much aviationally deprived area that we are, it was nice to see it. If anyone knows what it was doing and would care to share, I would be most grateful. Also, although I couldn't be 100% positive, it appeared to be in Coastguard livery. Thanks. N.Z. |
Might have got lost whilst checking that the coast was clear.

It was the new Coastguard S92 on workup, no doubt looking at the Hospital Landing sites.

You'll find that it was G-MCGE which is working out of Humberside on its 3 month lead-in period. This is the aircraft that was in the Lakes a few days ago to introduce the Lakes MR teams to 21st century aviation.
Just the one aircraft at Humberside so far and the same at Inverness (G-MCGF). (ADS-B reveals not quite all but most of it.) |

First helicopter over Sheffield in a year and I miss it .... typical :ugh:

Jim,
looks like you have inside knowledge ? do you know where each Coastguard 92 & 189 will be based ? MCGA-D were not allocated in registration order & I've heard that MCGH may possibly be the second 92 based at Humberside . |
Thanks for the info, guys.

All I have done is observe which aircraft are visiting MRT and check for Bristow SAR aircraft on flightradar24.
G is still at Stornoway. H and I are believed to be at Aberdeen, presumably for engineering work. |
