Complex rescue off Corfu

To all SAR crews involved in the complex rescue from Norman Atlantic ferry of Corfu, well done.

Good job

My deep respect to the SAR-crews, hoisting up the victims by day and night!
Hard stuff-well done!
I very much appreciate the metal basket for few persons, especially children!
The solo sling, with non attended victims, I do consider as beeing risky...
Well anyway-the crews are heroes in my opinion!
Congratulations!

Agreed, sounds like the mother of all SAR ops!

That was in front of Albanian coast near bay of
Vlore 40.74562° / 19.10231°
There are several videos present on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...orman+atlantic

Types of helicopters involved that may be visible on videos and
from other sources are:
AW139 guarda costiera
HH139A marina militare
NH90 marina militare
EH101 marina militare

Overview of ops -> http://www.helipress.it/speciali-14-..._in_elicottero

Also
ATR72 guarda costiera
and
C130 from Greece military
on early stages

It seems that all helicopters performed only hoist pick up.
Any landing attempt on ferry H marked deck was to risky.
No known use of sling, bigger baskets or known utility rescue
SAR FR net for up to 10 persons.

There are some unconfirmed news reports that one hoisting failed?!

During rescue ops, helicopters was visible on AIS only.
ADS - B or Mode C was not possible to receive because of relative distance...

Congrats to all involved :ok:

PS
4 years ago was similar fire on Und Adriatic, in front of Istria,
much less people on board and sea calm

Some after facts:

Rescued passengers , however , grumble that it was all slow
and that the first passengers are hoisted on the helicopter
at 18:56 on Sunday , 14 hours after the fire was officially
observed , 17 hours after fire noticed by first passengers...

Italy, meanwhile, refused to accept the offer from Greece to
start operation. Roman il Messaggero quoted a Greek Defence Minister Nikos
Dendias, Greek Skai television network ( Sky ) :
"We had available funds and resources. Italy accepted on Monday the support of our Super Puma
helicopters from bases on Corfu"
Official numbers now, 14 RIP (2 Albanian sailors from tug)
and 40 people missing.

Let's hope that EU can take some proper steps in accordance.
Cooperation/coordination tool called
"Adriatic Ionian EU region" already exist.

An outstanding rescue effort by the crews - shame that politics seems to have got in the way.
