Jaguar is set to airlift its new ‘baby’ XE sports saloon car into London suspended underneath a helicopter for a dramatic star-studded global launch.
The mid-air stunt planned for Monday September 8 will be part of the world premiere of the £30,000 car to be staged in the capital with a host of singing stars and VIPs.
Details emerged in an official ‘teaser’ video from the company.

It shows the new XE car flying high above the factory in Solihull near Birmingham where it is to be built, dangling underneath a helicopter – and accompanied by the Red Arrows air display team.
It notes: ‘Jaguar’s XE is coming.’
The new car receives its star-studded world premiere unveiling at London’s Earl’s Court on Monday before crossing the Channel to the Paris show next month.
But the car firm is also promising dramatic scenes en route along the Thames.
Jaguar is collaborating with British artists including singer song-writer Emeli Sandé, designer Stella McCartney and ‘Mandela’ and ‘The Wire’ actor Idris Elba as part of the launch programme.

Pop performers the Kaiser Chiefs and Eliza Doolittle are also set to play at the launch.
A Jaguar spokesman said: ‘The new Jaguar XE has started its journey to London from Jaguar Land Rover’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Solihull – supported by the legendary best of British Royal Air Force Red Arrows Acrobatic Team.
‘The unveil of the new Jaguar XE will be an exhilarating audio-visual spectacle that will be seen and heard across the Thames.
‘The star studded global reveal will feature an exclusive appearance by Emeli Sandé performing from a secret location alongside the Thames.‘
The award winning British singer-songwriter has created the song especially for the launch which she will perform.

Jaguar announced: ‘The Earls Court show will be narrated by actor John Hannah and will also feature special performances from artists including Emeli Sandé The Kaiser Chiefs and Eliza Doolittle’.
The new XE is most fuel efficient Jaguar and will achieve 75miles per gallon.

The new medium-sized Jaguar family car goes on sale next Spring is a British competitor to German rival BMW’s best-selling 3-series.
On Monday this week Jaguar Land Rover launched its new seven-seater Land Rover Discovery Sport - a compact but upmarket family sports utility vehicle to the outgoing Freelander, which will be produced alongside the best-selling Range Rover Evoque at the group’s Halewood plant on Merseyside.

Have been involved with a few of these underslung car jobs. Saab into a dealership in Aberdeen, Peugeot into a remote photo location on Skye, Hyundai onto the white cliffs of Dover. One was the launch of the Rover 800 (anyone remember these?). Had to fly it from Glasgow airport up the Clyde to the Rover dealership. As we transitioned away from Glasgow airport, I heard ATC instructing a 737 to "line up and wait after the departing Rover".

Don't know if it is true or not but heard a story that Bristows were asked to undersling a new Citroen from Calais over to the UK in the '60s using a Whirlwind. The story goes they got half way across the English Channel and realised they didn't have enough fuel to get to the coast. To far out to return to France so they jettisoned it !

Now, now, Peter. Next price point up, certainly one would agree.

But the entry-level machine, it's built for the hoi-polloi, you know. The only way to get 500 horses there would be to purchase two of them.

Can't be seen arriving in that sort of thing at one's club. :rolleyes:

The Bell 205 is still unmatched in it's role. As for the AW139 being remotely British, you must be joking? It's yet another Bell design, simply with an Italian badge.

Has anyone ever put a hook on a 139?

Well, the 'W' is technically British. And, supposedly, the (bl:mad:dy annoying) FTR microswitches in the pedals were first seen on the Seaking, courtesy of Westlands.

Mwhaha, now you're the deluded one! The 139 is very definitely an Italian design. I understand that the only Bell input was that the cabin is the same size as the 205/212/412 family.

Agusta was the lead partner from the start.
Bell was the secondary partner for the first 54 aircraft.
Westland has been the secondary partner ever since.

Seeing as 93% of the aircraft built so far don't have the Bell moniker nor Bell support, it's a stretch to call it a Bell product at this stage of the game.

So far as I'm aware, Bell did no assembly in N. America at all, with the AW plant in N. Philadelphia doing all the N. American work.

I do believe Era has operated the 139 with a hook in Alaska.

Bell was only involved at the commercial level so that Agusta could get involved in the 609.
Luckily for the 139 and Agusta, Bell has since moved on.

ERA has been using the 139 in Alaska since 2008 for an Exxon Mobil project in the North Slope.
We did day and night sling loading operations.
I believe also the Aga Khan Foundation also does sling loading in the Nepal area.

Long way to bring a 139 from Alaska or Nepal, to do a job that a 205 can do perfectly safely. And I'm not sure what extra safety benefit a 139 would bring to this operation?

In January 2013 an AW139 successfully underslung an Aston Martin Vanquish to the helipad on the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai as part of the Aston Martin Company centenary celebrations. :D
