Looks very much like the X2 to me. I would assume the upward taper on the vertical fin represents the flare angle in an auto you can achieve without hitting the prop.

Take a closer look at the main gear attachment to the fuselage. At least to me the structure appears to be a steel weldment cross tube outside of moldline with no provisions for retraction. The wheel appears to be an industrial unit like the tie down rings. Finally, when have you ever seen retractable landing gear painted black.

Where’s the emoticon for the pop corn?

The window and door placement and the bulkhead that's visible in #26 give the appearance that the entire cabin is forward of the CG. I assume that's not true, but it looks odd.

No Pilot Doors?

No doors for the pilots? I don’t see any sign of door handles or hinges. Just a piano hinge for the window to swing out for emergency egress. So normal ingress/egress is between the seats as on a CH-53?

Yes this seems to be the case. We discussed here it a few years ago https://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/52...ml#post8992794

I'd like to see if this is a rugged helicopter. The Main shaft and rotorhead looks quite beefy and durable

Rigid Rotor Requirements

Unlike conventional helicopters the Defiant incorporates a rigid rotor (no flapping hinge). This drives tremendous loads into the mast. Just hope is beefy enough for fatigue life.

The big diameter also allows space to run the controls internally for reduced drag.

Any updates for when first flight is planned?

It does look a little different than what you can see on the renderings from the promo videos (note reflective ground lets you see more detail)

It lives! We now have a pretty exact milestone to compare between the programs. V280 first turned rotors in mid September 2017.

Anyone else think the prop might be getting a little cooked?

IFMU 13th Jan 2019 00:03

Very cool! I had seen the video a few days ago but wasn't sure if it was publicly released. I bet the prop is fine based on what we saw on X2.
