C/R and R/D
 

I am of course referring to Challenge / Response and Read / Do in the Normal Checklists.

My entire career I have always understood C/R to mean I would read an item from the checklist ( as NFP ) and "Challenge" the flying pilot for his action and "Response" For example "landing gear" and the FP would respond "3 green"

R/D to mean that I would say the item and also complete the action. For example "Floats...Armed"

Is this how everyone else sees this?

The reason I'm asking is my company has now decided that these 2 phrases would mean the exact opposite, C/R means I (as NFP) would have already completed the item (possibly from memory) and now am looking for the other pilot to confirm. Whereas R/D would require an action and response from the FP.

Thoughts/comments?

Seems rather silly.

Why the perceived need to change an established and good system?

I wonder what their reason behind changing it is?

I am all for change when I can see the perceived benefits but can't see what benefits this wound bring

You have a new chief pilot, or head of check and training? Usually the cause of such changes. They like to put their stamp on things, well some do. If it aint broke .......

For years I have been telling crews that a "checklist" is exactly that, a checklist, not a "do" list. Now the company actually says in the OMA that R/D is a "Do List" ..... although they temper that later saying that if circumstances are such that it is impractical to ask for and read the "Do list" then you can go ahead and complete the item, but to be sure and complete the checklist later......blah blah blah. We would not need this caveat if they would just leave well enough alone :ugh:
