JIGSAW at Stonehaven
Do the press photos show a Jigsaw 225 doing the Stonehaven rescue/recovery of a man from the sea at Stonehaven at the weekend? If so, how did it come to get called onto the task (and is this routine?). Was it mobilised from offshore? Mobilised while onshore? An oportunity diversion to task while en route?
Just curous.. |
Yes it was a Jigsaw machine that assisted in the rescue and evacuation at Stonehaven. They have been tasked by the ARCC quite a few times in recent weeks. Sometimes due to their position and timing. The aircraft and crew get brought onshore occasionally and are held at the airport. Another professional response, a real shame with the eventual outcome.

The BBC News website for North East Scotland does indeed show a Jigsaw chopper there. See this link.
Although the STV news site shows an EC135 air ambulance in their story - which headlines he was airlifted to hospital. I think several times I have seen a jigsaw aircraft sitting on the tarmac at Aberdeen Airport? We had horrendous weather again at the weekend - why do so many people feel the need to get so close to that very dangerous rough seas - not only putting themselves at risk but also the coastguard and emergency services. Another needless tragedy and grieving family. |
I guess if they were sitting at Dyce having flown someone in from offshore, they would have been the obvious asset to task. Just interesting to see one on task in a non-industry situation. With 40 mins in the water it was never likely to end well, but good job in recovering the casualty back to his family in shocking conditions.

And for the uninitiated - "Jigsaw"? Please nicely

JIGSAW kinda rhymes with - J-GSAR reg of the yellow and black striped AS332L2 used for offshore SAR initially started by Bristows :) over a decade ago :)
Saw JIGSAW at Helitech 03 :) The SAR role then went to Bond Offshore :) Cheers |
JIGSAW kinda rhymes with - J-GSAR reg of the yellow and black striped AS332L2 used for offshore SAR initially started by Bristows over a decade ago G-JSAR was last seen doing beached whale impressions on the Netherlands coastline :uhoh: :\ Minor correction for FFF: they're AS32L2s, not 225s :ok: |
Thank you both - I will retreat with hat and coat whilst you argue semantics!

Tasked by ARCC after a request for SAR helo from Aberdeen Coastguard. Bond have completed a number of coastguard tastings and jobs such as these.

Originally JIGSAW referred to an "all singing all dancing" SAR setup which BP developed for their offshore installations on a risk basis. It included "dedicated SAR helicopters" and "special" SAR vessels and fast rescue craft. We have moved on a lot since the original idea. For a start BP sold a lot of its installations.........
