Have heard a rumor that CHC pilots in oz will strike soon? Or as they say industrial action will commence?

If so, it can't be because they are over-worked or under-paid ...

They are if you compare them to Bristow;-)

Interesting timing given the global CEO is in Perth for the pep talk.

Facts: CHCs only pay offer is well short of the Australian competition (Bristow). The chief pilot, head of training, offshore manager, onshore manager, financial director have resigned or moved on. Long term contracts in Mackay and in WA have been lost. Bond helicopters are recruiting. Many push/pull factors in play, but pilots are leaving.

If you were in the pilot retention business, the facts should be plain to see:ugh:

Facts: AFAP issued notice to CHC Head Office :ugh: on the 21st of Protected Industrial Action on the 27th - Onshore Drivers 4 hour stop work, Offshore Drivers 24 hour stop work - drivers will respond to any medevac or rig de-man.

Yep, it looks like industrial action is going ahead. CHC Australia is losing work. They are expensive and the customers are unhappy (NOT blaming the crews for this). When you get rid of the entire local management and replace it with various expats who don't fully understand the country, the workforce or the customers, you get this kind of trouble.

So rumour has it that today the bridge-building between negotiating parties began with emails stating how much salary will be deducted from pilots taking protected industrial action on Thursday.

There is more angst and ill feeling caused by not negotiating and sending intimidatory emails than just meeting the market rate for salary. Alledgedly, it's not even as if the initial CHC claim was as high as Bristow were awarded in their successful negotiation. In fact, it is my understanding it is less.

Funny isn't it, under the old management the normal banter and threats of strike occurred but they always managed an agreeable position prior to action. The retention rate was good and the pilot group was content.

So now they appear to have a management group that would rather let them go on strike, costing the company more than the disputed increase, costing them again with disappointing clients if flights are lost as a result, and costing them in retention and retraining when they shed pilots. All in an apparent effort to win over the pilot group.

The company won't win the battle or the war, so why bother with the angst. It appears management is not their speciality. :ugh:
