Hevilift accidents

Anyone got any details on the Hevilift Mil8 crash in Indo?

Heard its going to be a sling load job back to Hagen.:)

And the 212 crash near Tari first report was no injuries now I hear maybe a broken back for the pilot?

Semi Rigid 13th Jan 2013 02:22

I heard a badly sprained back for the pilot and he was going for cat-scan. Not sure of the condition of the other two crew but initial reports were badly tweaked backs all around.
That is a long haul from Timika to Mt. Hagen but other than putting it on a boat how else would you get it back for repair.

New set of blades & fly it back I reckon!?!

Or keep it around as spares for the new shiny ones.

Are those the shiny ones used for the Freeport job Duck? Are they 8s or 17s?

heliduck 13th Jan 2013 05:31

17's, owned by Freeport & operated by Airfast Indonesia.

Don't laugh, remember where you are, it's been done before!

As a casual observer looking in I gotta say that Hevilift seem to be having a bad run of luck recently, this would be their 3rd prang in less than a year.

VT-51_Razor 14th Jan 2013 20:33

I understand that Erickson Air-Crane is enroute today to lift it out.

Semi Rigid 14th Jan 2013 21:16

4th - 412, 206L, Mi-8, B212
Actually the 412 must be over a year ago. Terrible run.

geeup 14th Jan 2013 23:40

Thought Mil8s are external load only?

That recovery has to be expensive.

Was the Mil on the P2?

Scary stuff really. :{

Expensive for the insurer I would expect....and I guess ultimately to the Company come the time to renew their hull loss insurance premiums. Especially being mindful this would be their 3rd big $$$ claim in the last year (given it looks like the Tari B212 heavy landing might be a write-off...).

VT 51 is on the money.

Georgia Peach at Timika Airport.

...any idea yet how it came to get in that state?

Reefdog 19th Jan 2013 06:46

here it is

geeup 21st Jan 2013 02:29

Top video :)

So where did it end up?

And is the 212 still in Tari?

Steve76 21st Jan 2013 04:59

Nice job guys. Hope all were ok in the prang...

gulliBell 21st Jan 2013 05:43

....the cone of silence over Mt Hagen HQ is working as good as ever

heliduck 21st Jan 2013 12:28

Steve76,
Everyone got out ok, the bloke in the rear seat told me he went to open the emergency exit once they were down & the handle came off in his hand, so they all filed out the front door in an orderly fashion. Best result for a bad situation.

gulliBell 21st Jan 2013 20:57

....we still haven't heard here what the situation was that brought it down.

Semi Rigid 21st Jan 2013 21:57

gullibell - looked like a case of falling short on approach and pulling pitch which didn't arrest his rod enough to make it to the pad.

gulliBell 21st Jan 2013 23:04

...and the Tari B212?
