Helicopters E-Logbook
 

Hello folks,

I want to buy a E-logbook to keep alongside my regular one...the idea is to have a program that beside the Total flight hours, in a couple of clicks can get me certain type of specific information like offshore time, Night, instruments or else and most of it, that allows me to print the hour logging in fashion that can be accepted by the companies when applying for jobs.

I have a Mac and a Ipad, so a program based on these platforms for me is a must....any inputs from the "e-loggers" out there is greatly appreciated!....

I use logten pro.

+1 for LogTen Pro. Very good program, and great customer support.

Safelog Pro - to give you an alternative. Available along all computer platforms including Iphone and Android. Not as simple as Logten, but mighty in regard of statistics and added features.

I use Zululog and am happy. Very easy to add custom fields. Don't know about the others.

MCC Pilotlog for me. Easy for iPhone to PC!

Bluelog is worth a look too! will work on pc or mac and is also and iPhone / iPad app.

I'm interested in this subject too but in addition I would like to know FOR SURE that the CAA will accept elogs and, if so, whether their requirements affect the choice of software. Personally I tried a load of them (certainly all those mentioned so far) and found they had too many fields to fill in so I've gone for Google Forms which makes it easy to do fancy reports.

I tried Logten Pro who had fabulous customer support but for me it had to many bells and whistles which stopped me from entering the data I wanted to..

Logbook Pro. It's fairly intuitive and you can create customized (time, counter, text and yes/no cells) columns such as offshore time, hoist sequences etc. You can also set up currency items or expiry dates for your medical. You can pull all kinds of reports sorted by aircraft type, category or class. You can view and print currency status and history reports, Jeppesen Style and other styles of flight logs. There is a versions for almost any kind of device available on the market and you can synchronize data between those and/or a cloud. Make sure you save a backup on a regular basis regardless of which program you are using. Keep multiple copies of that file on your laptop or external hard drive, email the backup file to yourself or sign up to their cloud sync feature! Nothing sucks more than loosing all your data an a stolen laptop or a crashed hard drive.

Not CAA, but CASA accept them as long as there is a regular print out which is filed as a 'true copy' unless the eLog is locked with changes being tracked. This was discussed only a fortnight ago, and the rationale from my FOI was that an electronic log can be altered without trace, whereas a hard copy or locked eLog can show a history should it be doctored. As has been found in a number of investigations :=

I'm not sure what reason you give to the CAA not accepting them. I have maintained solely an electronic log for the last 3 years (in the UK), and a printed copy with the pages signed has sufficed in company audits, and all FCL matters. I used it with the counter service just last monday for the addition of ratings. It is true that you could technically go back and change your flying history and re-print it, but you don't, besides if you had this nature you could add falsified flights into a handwritten log as you go along... perhaps given that this has to be an acceptable means of logging flight moving forward there might be a commercial edge to a company that design a mechanism to add security in this respect?

Approved regular syncing with a cloud based system (to which the relevant authority has access), which can flag up and log changes made retrospectively to the essential flight information required by part-fcl, making them available for assessment by the authority should they chose to make routine checks whilst undergoing company audits etc (not to prevent the changes being made as they may be legitimate, but to draw attention to those flights in particular should someone wish to determine their authenticity). If the system was thought through and approved one would think that it could update your basic flight history, via the cloud, to your personal CAA account directly - no need for handing in paper copies.

Maybe this would be considered a little OTT and perhaps 'Big Borther'y, but there is nothing particularly private in the basic particulars of logged flights, and we need to make them available to the CAA in any case. If a developer were to discuss is with the CAA (LogTen are you listening), and come up with an acceptable, practical solution, they may just wipe the floor with the others.

As opposed to falsifying it on entry.......Is not the whole premise behind logbooks based upon the honor system at entry anyways.....

I use Logten pro on my mac, ipad and iphone.
Its absolutely brilliant and I have used tge reports for many submissions to the CAA without any problem whatsoever.

One that knows how to spell.

HaHaHa. I love PPRuNe ! Excel is my tool of choice.

Like many others I switched to mccPILOTLOG when the guys from LogTen Pro started to become excessively greedy.
There is a couple of very informative threads on here, just use the search function.
