BBC News - Reuben Brothers buy London Heliport in Battersea Reuben Brothers buy London Heliport in Battersea Billionaire brothers David and Simon Reuben have bought the London Heliport in Battersea for an undisclosed sum. Their investment vehicle Aldersgate Investments made the acquisition from Andrew Davis, the former boss of collapsed hotel group Von Essen Hotels. The Battersea site is London's only commercial helipad. The brothers, who are involved in private equity and real estate ownership, are believed to be worth more than £6bn. They already own Oxford Airport. The heliport has an exemption from the no-fly zone during the Olympics "meaning a large number of dignitaries and other VIPs will be able to use it as an easy access route to the 2012 Games", Reuben Brothers said in a statement. It was reported last year that accountants had been appointed to conduct a review of Von Essen Aviation, Mr Davis' company which owned the heliport. |

Wonder what the Reubens will do with the landing fees? Go up for the Olympics, down for OXF operators and stay the same for everyone else???!!
Presumably PremiAir will now have to pay the going rate now they don't own the place. It would be good to see the capacity limit lifted from 12,000 a year (is that what it is?) Any chance of increasing the parking space further out into the Thames - no reason physically, presumably all down to politics? |
Latest on heliport use during Olympics
Any further word on constraints, changes or otherwise for gaining access in and out of the heliport during the Olympics? Any news on heli routes being closed or changed, or security restrictions, new notification requirements etc.?

Parliament passing various Statutory Instruments on June 1st - so no written instructions until then.
Verbally, Battersea will have access from south only. No routings north, east or west. Not certain where the LFA will run south. And central London off-limits otherwise until mid-Sept. Exemptions only being passed if they first qualify "in the public interest". Which is a licence to say no to anything not essential. |
Jim B - if that's the case then all the "cloth cap guys ooop north" will be teed off. There is more land mass to the north of EGLW than south. But I suppose that's why the SNP are working on independence for Scotland. Sad day, if it happens, because EGLW will close as the guys ooop north find alternative sites to drop their hard grafting bosses near the metropolis.UG:=

We're seeing more and more restrictions on operating into the LHR CTR. Every time a TRA / RA(T) (or whatever they calling them this year), the NOTAM fails to mention the obviously needed revised rules and procedures for getting to and from EGLW. So far we've had to rely on phone calls, rumours and chinese whispers. We're a few weeks away from the Olympics and we STILL don't know how we're supposed to operate into the only licensed heliport in London, or if we actually can do so.
It's absolutely pathetic, in my opinion. The onshore helicopter industry is struggling; this lack of direction hardly makes it any easier! :* |

I approached the lady in charge a couple of weeks ago about this and she told me they hoped to have it all done by now, I don't think she enjoyed being told what a total cluster f*@& the industry saw it as, and how DAP has lost the trust of industry, and that if money is lost, or unemployment caused DAP will be blamed by the employers. The Battersea regs should have been out at least three months ago, I suppose this is what you get when you hire an ex-air force bod with no concept of civvie aviation and even less interest to do the job. Lets face it when was Wing Commander ever a rank/job in the CAA? SND (Retired Major, never used it since the Queen stopped paying me) |
I've let it be known that we will be avoiding the place for the whole period if at all possible because the situation is unworkable.
I managed to avoid saying it was complete crock of you know what :oh: , but it is. |
