lightning strike on a CHC EC155 Holland
lightning strike on a CHC EC155 , it occurred earlier this week. Damage to the tail finn, fuselage and the rotor blades was reported.
Some out there with some info. Any systems damaged? Instruments avionics? I hate lightning, the cage of faraday, I don't know I try to stay far away:\ |
They need to throw away all the blades.
A S-76 went down in the Norwich area many years after it had a lightning strike. The metallugist found that the blade was prevously "cooked". |
I heard it was a Agusta 139

it was an S76 that had lightning strike 3 years before accident which exploited a manufacturing anomaly which was not picked up by sikorsky before blade returned to service |
It was this one:
Eurocopter EC155 B1, PH-SHN, CHC Helicopters Netherlands bv |
I would imagine if its bad enough to trash all the blades, all the gearboxes could poss be rejected, drive shafts etc.
had quite a few bad ones in ABZ over the last few years. expensive insurance jobs and a lot of work! |
