Eket,

Is Mick Bowe still working in Cork?

bolkow 25th Nov 2011 09:06

Hello 500 fan. I do remember reading an article a long time ago about Irish helicopters and it mentioned it being set up originally by a Ken Besson who began the operation when he bought the hiller helicopter put up for sale by a departing US ambassador. I remener seeing the aircraft once when I was very young, Can recall it was painted a light blue but I do not know the registration number I'm afraid, guess it could have been EI-ART but cant say for sure.

Hi Griffo,

Hope you doin ok and the 'sand' is not causing too much discomfort in 'yer crack'!

Jim E, Mick B and Pat J are all contracting at the moment to cover the permanent Engineering staff who are transitioning to S92A. The 3 lads, affectionatley known as 'Last of the Summer Wine' (you decide which is which!), are primarily at the Shannon base for the moment when not either on a Golf Course, in the Bandon River etc etc.

Regards

SS.;)

Out of curiosity, when does the first S-92 arrive in Ireland for SAR operations?

Fantastic thread btw.. Interesting read for us younger members here who wern't around in them days. Love the photos!

bolkow 28th Nov 2011 09:40

I believe the first s92 comes in 2012, a used one from the UK and the others comes in drips and drabs after that.

Anyone know who the Pilot is in this video from 1978?

Savoia 13th Dec 2011 03:34

Aengus, what a wonderful piece of IH nostalgia. Brilliant! :D

I rather suspect the 'vintage' feel of the vid is an effect however - nonetheless, most enjoyable.

bolkow 13th Dec 2011 08:19

I cant get the vid, its blank, otherwise I might have known who it was.

Savoia 13th Dec 2011 08:26

Bolkow, log onto You Tube and search the video title: Clifden Aerial View 1978 - Galway Ireland and see if you can access it that way.

bolkow 13th Dec 2011 09:20

I think I have actually seen that one, with bolkow BDI (the one that crashed off donegal). I od know the video I saw did identify the pilot but I did'nt know him and cannot recall the name, it was'nt Oakes, Fergus O Connor and was before Kennealy and Hennessy times.
