Helicopters Vietnam

I'm planning a vacation around Asia in the Fall, would like to explore some parts by air - Vietnam seems to offer a variety of companies and aircraft (mixture of Western and Russian kit), any views, experiences, advice, warnings please? Thanks in advance

Viet Nam

The last Viet Nam air tour I took was in 1965. You wouldn't like it.

Sorry I can't help you now. :)
But back in 66 I got lots of night hours & 189 helicopter hours in one month!

Good experiences on all my airline flights within Vietnam....much improved since riding in the hind end of Herc's with cargo straps and cargo pallets for seating....amazing what a change forty years makes! They beat the heck out of any American airline for appearances of the Girls in Back! Ao Dai's beat the hell out of the standard American uniform.

I visited Vietnam in 2008 for four weeks.

Went there and back on a Vietnam Airlines 777 and had no problems. While in the country, I flew on an A320 or A300 between cities, again no complaints.

Only choppers I remember clearly seeing were Hueys on the ground in war-era concrete bunkers at the main airport. I may have seen some old Mils but not sure.

To the best of my knowledge there's no civilian helicopters in this country. There's no privately owned fixed wing aircraft either, basically GA is non existent.

Helicopters Vietnam

docstone,
flying over Ha Long Bay in the north is definitely a must...
Northern SFC (part of SFC, now renamed VNH - Viet Nam Helicopters) operate a mix of Russian (Mi8/17) and Western/Eurocopter (EC130, EC155) helicopters.
You can find all details on their website.
Enjoy your visit in this beautiful country :)
