An opportunity to play out the eternal love affair between pilots and mechanincs, or engineers if you prefer, (see its started already!) and what makes them tick!

Let's begin with this:

We know that helicopter engineers are not completely without common sense because they've chosen to work in an industry in which are are also present.

Whay then would an engineer do this?



The aircraft is US registered by has an Australian company name on it, whether this makes a difference I don't know!

Maybe you need to get out more often!

Do a YT search for any logging or firefighting operation. Common occurrence and on many occasion I have found several things that would have been an issue had I not taken a look.

TRGB Oil leak, hydraulic pump leaks, etc etc.

Remember these types of aircraft on ops on a typical day may fly over 12 hours without a shutdown.

Check out an S64 turnaround, there's probably 2 guys looking at the turning parts.

You cannot afford not to.

Our aircraft (HH-60H) often fly similar hours, especially at sea. But we always disengage the rotors before we start pulling panels and climbing up top!

That makes the difference between Bell and Sikorsky then.....:)

During fire fighting season we sometimes did the same.....especially when we were on the way to a Rescue-Mission because the original EMS-helicopter refused to go to a "terrain that difficult".....

Sometimes there is just no need to shut down the engine......

Working "safe" does not always mean that it "looks" safe to people not involved....
