New Helicopter Training at Bournemouth
Does anybody know who the Helicopter training company that has moved to Bournemouth from Coventry is.
What are they operating. Cheers |

Only one helicopter training company
There is only one helicopter training company based at EGHH, that is Bournemouth Helicopters. They also operate all handling on behalf of EGHH through their sister company Bournemouth Handling. They have operated there for the last 20 years and operate Robinson R44, Schweizer 300's, B206, EC120 and Enstrom 280. The "new company" is basing a helicopter there periodically to carry out AOC work. If you read their web site is says Helicopter Tours, nothing about helicopter training.

Thought Bournemouth Helicopters catered for all the training and charter in that area. Hence having machines like the EC120 ect...

As far as Bournemouth Heli's looking after all the rotary flying in and around that area go they historically are just a training facility with the 44 and 300. Only recently has been the introduction of a EC120 but at this present moment in time I don't think they have an AOC, although that is going to change soon so I hear.
Cannot see any harm in a new facility starting up. Good luck to them. |
That sounds really exciting when a good solid company expands, has a satellite company. I hope it will all work out for them and be profitable within 12 months. Good break for the new instructors/ commercial pilots. I wonder if they are sharing a porta cabin to live in ?

I never really had to live in the van luckily.....all seems to be going well for the Helicentre girls and boys lots of people seem to have benefitted from the company ethos of producing a 'working Pilot' and they seemed to have weathered the downturn better than most flight schools, they continue to attract new students at a time when it must be incrediably difficult to secure finance and get that flying career going which was traditionally where the Helicentre fuglies came from. yes you are right, they have been all talk about an AOC being imminent for many many years and usually I would think the same as you but a reliable source has informed me that this time they are working towards it and soon we will know. It is amazing how Bournemouth has lasted so long without a commercial operator rather than just a flight training company. After all that time without one it may look like there will now be two at once but I am not holding my breath. |

Poaching
If an operator moves in and sets up in another airfield/area which has been covered by a successful operator for 20 years, I am sorry I see this as no better than poaching! Do you believe all you read on web sites? , it may be that the HA are not as busy as they make out at their other base's. Maybe they need the work? how much training is done at their London base?

TOT, 'poaching' what a ludicrous comment. Does that mean that my local Starbucks are a bunch of poachers (and the way in which you say it implies poachers = bad people, which I agree with) because they have set up in my local town that already has a Costa and in fact a Nero's. That should then mean there are two poachers.
Competition is a fact of life, get used to it. If we did not have it then standards would not have to be so high. Those companies that historically have enjoyed being the only operator have not had to worry about losing custom. Perhaps that is what is needed at Bournemouth, I don't know. An example of poaching would be the competitor contacting each customer of the other lot and goading them away offering a far superior service or cheaper costs etc. Even if they contacted those customers and said this is who we are and that's it then is that really poaching, I don't believe so. |
RE Poaching
I think poaching is a bit too much but I think it is good to add a competitive market in the industry, helps the rest of us get a better deal and better customer service.
Regards to the website, I'm not very sure about their "London Base" or the use of a EC135 & As355, but the rest looks pretty good. Bournemouth looks like the perfect spot to set up! DP |
If an operator can sit on an airfield for 20 years or so and not bother with an AOC then they cannot complain if somebody comes along who has already done so.

Yep, sounds such a good idea. Just think of the amount of revenue you could bring in from the olympics for the two weeks it will be on. It's a shame that no other operator has the insight to think ahead. Those lucky pilots will have such a wonderful, experience building time, I wonder how much money they will be making ?

I am sure that with the amount of shuttling that will be going on between the London base and the Bournemouth base the pilots will be able to retire on the huge earnings they will be paid during those two olympic weeks. If they are not too busy with training!
